Do my new watch pass or fail inspection?

If people want an Omega you should let them get what they want - and certainly not try to convince them to buy Longines instead
I think you’re reading too hard into Jame’ post. The OP said:
And I like numbers on the dial
And @JwRosenthal showed him a watch that fit that exact description. I didn’t see any “convincing” to abandon Omega rather sharing an equally impressive company, with equally impressive heritage, and honestly a better looking piece.

I don’t think it has anything to do with « shitting », somehow people have various attachments to various brands for whatever reasons which may be sentimental, it evokes certain images or certain memories. If people want an Omega you should let them get what they want - and certainly not try to convince them to buy Longines instead :whipped:
Not trying to convince of anything- simply speaking to your point:
...you could also consider lovely watches from many other brands than Omega, which may be very nice and very good quality, but much cheaper because the brand is less famous.”

Some newcomers to the hobby have a preconceived idea that Omega is a “better” brand than many other well respected brands, and Rolex even “better”- still- it’s simply not being educated.
The OP being interested in a Longines he found attractive, then being disappointed because “ ..its not a omega and that bothers me a bit” implies he puts more value on Omega, either because he has the misconception that Omega is a superior watch to Longines, or for the sentimental value you imply. Either way, I simply wanted to clarify that there is no reason to think Longines to be inferior to Omega.

Having been the owner of about 1/2 dozen Seamaster’s of this vintage, I wouldn’t shit on Longines- they can punch pound for pound against Omega and can be more interesting esthetically
thats a nice one! i found this sport chief that i liked a bit too goldy for my taste tho

Wittnauer was the sub-brand to Longines- like Tissot to Omega. In some respects the Witt’s were of “lower quality” as many used off the shelf parts whereas Longines were in-house. But like Tissot, Witt did some very sporty and daring designs while Longines stuck to a more conservative stance- very much like Tissot did during the 60’s/70’s, and Tudor did as a sub to Rolex.
As with any vintage watch, research and patience is rewarded. Not every Longines, Wittnauer, Omega was a winner- in fact they all made a few dogs every now and then. The fun of this hobby is identifying the gems and finding the absolute best examples that you can.

Wittnauer made good quality Swiss watches - but the one above again is refinished and if you’re going to buy a brand that’s lesser known you might as well get an original dial.

On my phone I cannot tell whether the Tissot below is an original dial- but it just goes to show you might find designs you like in many brands.

Nivada makes very good quality Swiss watches, and completely under-rated except for their vintage dive watches which are super expensive.

What you need to ensure for a daily wearer is that the watch is all steel (not « stainless steel back » as it means the rest of the watch is another material). And you need all of the pictures to see the condition of the movement inside. If the case is a screwback that is probably better to stop moisture ingress.

My best advice, like we give to all new comers to this forum & hobby, is read as much as you can about vintage watches.
This is a good place to start.
https://omegaforums.net/threads/learn-how-to-fish.52603/

All the threads that come up here on “is this original”, are valuable to see what experienced members point out as merits or flaws. After a while you learn the signs and can apply those skills to your own hunting.
If you are on a budget, pop over to the bargain thread and check out what gets posted there daily (some days are more active than others).
https://omegaforums.net/threads/rec...-deals-on-ebay-other-auctions.113139/page-149

Not only will you see some nice watches on the cheap from the full spectrum of horology, but there is usually discussion or commentary on them so we all learn and share- kind of a group critique.

The Croton brand is Nivada's US brand.
As was LeJour to Yema I believe. So many brands, so many cool watches- so many minefields

Look on the private watch sales here- lots of great watches and some at great prices. They are Mod & member vetted so fakes and redials don’t make it through (and if redialed it will specify in the ad). You don’t need 200 posts to PM a seller if something catches your eye.

I There are plenty of non "project watches" that pop up on the sales thread here

To the point, there’s one now which doesn’t have numerals @Freddedw prefers but it’s available on the private sales forum from a trusted seller.
Unless you really dislike the baton indexes it’s a good quality Omega automatic watch at a budget that’s much lower than Seamasters. You’ll probably need a service for daily wear though.

it looks like a good watch but when i got my sight... i can go batons insted of numarals if all else "click" but i have problems with the squareish casing i like the rounded ones with added lugs or atleast looks like added lugs. then also can go for date but not also day it takes to much away from the looks of the dial. like theese, its "modern" look in there to, but its only date, nice batons and the lugs look like they are added afterwards;-) but well geese i just found a Bulova computron... nice but not the same at all ha ha ha
