Not if you sell it.
@noiseboyuk You aren’t exactly squeaky clean either. The whole thing about tapping up ebay auction listers for their bin price is annoying and an attempt to prey on their ignorance. I am sure any other bidders on that item have a less than charitable view about you. This time you hit someone with less scruples than yourself but be aware that both practices look a little sharp.
The sneakiest of sneaks cancel all bids first and then end the listing.
I hope it’s ok just to ‘vent’ on this forum.
I’ve always stood by my word and agreement in all sales and purchase transactions. My word is my bond and up to now I’ve found the same attitude amongst us watch collectors and enthusiasts. Of course, sometimes things go a bit wrong, but always get sorted out fairly and amicably.
Anyway - cutting to the chase.
I found a watch on eBay that I fancied as a bit of a ‘project’.
I asked the seller if he had a buy it now price and after a bit of negotiation we agreed a deal.
Very shortly afterwards he aborted the agreed deal - it didn’t take much to discover that he’d had a couple of decent bids on eBay and saw dollar signs.
I was a bit ‘miffed’ that he’d backed out, but hey, s**t happens.
So - today I’m looking through the sales forum and there is the same watch with a link to eBay but with a sales price on the forum of €800 (note to the mods - the seller only had 97 posts).
After a couple of PM’s a deal was agreed (again) and I received a Paypal payment request - but for the wrong amount.
Before I could query the Paypal request, I received another PM from the seller saying that he’d received a better offer and he was aborting the agreed deal with me again !!
I realise that I was a bit naive and ‘once bitten twice shy’ should have been my moral - but after all my previous enjoyable, honest and honourable transactions with fellow enthusiasts, I really didn’t envisage such behaviour.
Anyway - rant over - just be careful if you ever consider dealing with ‘Virro’.
Sorry to hear that..Had some things like that happen to me in the past. But I would like to say that you certainly are a man of your word and that seller lost credibility and respect over a few dollars. People ask for bin's all the time . If the seller accepts a bin that's his or her choice to do so, but to back out after a deal is struck is not commendable.
Ah yes, what some collectors like to call "back dooring" an auction. In some collecting circles, people are shunned completely for this particular maneuver. Did the OP's auction have any bids when he "asked for a BIN?" That is important. I've seen plenty of people kill auctions after bids were received in favor of an offer from a guy with an offer. It's unethical and not allowed by ebay, (unless the sale is ended in favor of the high bidder) but it's tough to stop. For those of you who say you "asked for a BIN because you couldn't wait for the sale or don't have time to wait, but you're NOT trying to beat the seller out of money and buy it for much less than you know it will bring at auction, cmon. You see it, know it will sell high, and hope you can get a price that is much less from a buyer who you hope has no clue. Let's just be honest. As for flying with crows etc, that's a perfect way of characterizing this. If a seller wants to sell BIN, he has the chance to do so when he lists the item, so sending those questions is questionable from the start. I like to think of it as a man who takes up with a married woman, she leaves her husband, they get married, and she cheats on him in the same way when a better opportunity presents itself. She did it to one man, she will do it again. This is true with genders reversed, of course. You roll in the mud with pigs, and you get dirty. The seller was dishonest, the OP may have been unethical, and now he's here to exact revenge on the seller. Dirty stuff. I find coming here to "tattle on him" particularly distasteful.
No opinion on the particulars in the OP, but I was under the impression that blind auctions were not allowed on this forum. Report the behaviour to the mods and move on.
