I've been looking at this...the markings see legit but I'd like more experienced eyes to give me an opinion.

Looks legit, JLC made a few models in WG over the years. Fake Reversos are relatively easy to spot because it isn't easy to fake the swivelling case. Most fakers don't even try, they just move on to models that are easier to fake.

Very good point.

Here are images of the dial. The seller offers books and papers but is upfront in saying they do not belong to this watch. The strap and buckle are obviously not JL, and he makes the point of saying this up front. The pictures of the stamping aren't great, but it does look the same in terms of positioning of the various hallmarks. Claims watch was serviced by JL in May 2021...I am asking for the paperwork.

😕 That sounds pretty sketchy to me.

I think he is offering them because they are nice to have...the manual, all of the other stuff that would have come with the watch. Look at how many of us buy boxes and books and various pieces put out by manufacturers. I have lots of these on Rolexes. I never pair them with a watch and say they are the ones that came with a watch of mine...but some people like to have that stuff.

Compare the placement of the hallmarks in the two examples...this one and the other that we know is authentic. Look at the dials...does anyone have knowledge that the dial I am referring to is fake?

You said papers, which generally refers to warranty papers, which are for a specific watch. I would be very careful buying from someone who is including papers for a different watch. Actually, unless he had a very good explanation for it, I would absolutely walk away.

If he is a JLC aficionado and has a bunch of extra manuals, obviously that's not a concern.

He isn't selling "papers" in terms of warranties, he's selling books...manual on how to use watch, lists of all the places to get serviced, etc. The papers I am asking him for are those that would document the claim of the watch being serviced last year.

I'm torn between this one, and a one year old one in steel, but with all the boxes and papers and still under warranty, original JL strap and buckle, etc. And with a sub seconds...hard for me to get used to a watch without a seconds hand. But being a gold bug, it is also hard to walk away from a white gold model, even though it is just the hours and minutes dial. I could live with that, but I'd probably carry a back up watch so I could confirm that mine is running without having to wait until I'm a half hour late somewhere.

Don't get hung up on placement of hallmarks, these vary wildly over the years. I have a very early Reverso, ca 1993, which was one of the earliest Reversos in the upgraded case construction and the hallmarks are very minimal. Over the years they became more standardized but there are still variations. I don't see anything in the pics that would arouse my suspicions. Too bad that the original gold buckle has gone missing, but this can happen. Paperwork on these models is pretty minimal, a standardized booklet in various languages describing the watch and one page where the seller stamped his store, model number, serial number and date. No huge loss if they are missing. But there is a ding for missing buckle.

Just be aware of the sizes, the ones without sub seconds tend to be on the smaller size.

Many thanks for the information. I wonder if I'm getting too enthralled with white gold factor. But for the price of a newer steel one, I'm tempted to go for this one. A proper buckle and strap can always be sourced later...and a steel buckle will work with the white gold case until a proper buckle is found.

I’ve had 4 or 5 reverses over the years & never formed a lasting bond … I think if I’d have had this one it might have been different! Lovely watch, I vote YES

I'm 99% certain I will pass on this watch. 1. The service papers are not complete and satisfying to me. They indicate what the watch needed when examined by JL, but not that the work was ever done and at what cost. 2. The seller has excellent feedback but has little experience with wristwatches. As the old saying goes, "buy the seller and not the watch." There is another Reverso I'm considering...very new-ish...still under warranty, matching set...blah blah blah. I'll give that one more thought.

If you aren’t buying then there is no harm in telling us the asking price. Be aware the gold deployant buckle costs over £750 last I checked so that would need to be factored in. I think the watch was genuine but I think you are wise to insist on proof of a service. JLC are even more expensive than Omega and not too many independents will touch them as they can’t get parts. In all honesty I’m not sure white gold is worth the premium over steel, it looks so similar most of the time. Only you will know as it weighs so much more. I love mine which I bought used and in need of a service, but the difference in price over steel when new is eye watering. Here is the other dial on mine.
