James, should the Mid-Atlantic G2G group sue the Detroit guys for infringement, royalties, etc.? We need some way to pay for those Christmas ornaments and coffee mugs!

I see this as friendly competition- see if they can pull it out of their ass better than we did.

Hi all,

Just seeing this now and getting caught up. I'm in the metro Detroit area, and as @Mad Dog has said, he and I have gotten together a couple of times already. I'd be happy to help coordinate, and if we decide on the northern suburbs (Troy, Birmingham, Royal Oak areas), I'll throw in a sweetener for anyone who has an interest in architecture: a personal tour of Cranbrook, my workplace and my home. It's a well-known example of mid-century modern design, and features some of the best Art Deco architecture in the world.
My wife always wanted to tour Cranbrook. That sounds great. If you send me pm I will give you easier ways to contact me.

If you do can I still retain you as my lawyer?

Didn't know @Mad Dog was a DTW guy! I'm up in the north of the mitt and fly into YIP regularly.

I'd be interested in attending, and it's far enough in advance to get the time off. Always happy to take a stroll through the Henry Ford or Greenfield Village. Meeting some real-life forum members would be a delight!

Edit: @Duracuir1 I believe you and I spoke about Cranbrook before when I was moonlighting with a contractor buddy in B-ham. Big fan of mid-mod design. You name your favorite brew and I'll source a case in exchange for a tour!

I'd be interested in attending as well. I grew up on the northeast side of Detroit, but now live in the Chicago area.

When I mentioned the last Mid Atlantic G2G and how I wished I could have attended, I got the reaction below! I'm thinking if we visit her brother in Mt. Pleasant, I can detour down to Detroit.

If she looks like Joan Crawford please bring her along!

Perhaps if you guys are already in the area, she may warm up. Besides my attitude on the more diversity in this hobby- the better, I think it’s awesome when someone’s partner can engage in hobbies/passions with them- even if it’s just for a social event like a luncheon or to bask in the glow of zeal from someone they love.

Of course relationships are complicated (my ex-wife was less than enthusiastic about any of my hobbies), and some people suffer from social anxiety- but it was a blast to have my wife at the Mid-Atlantic GTG and despite her social anxiety apprehension, she equally had as much fun attending as she did preparing the swag.

Your wife's hard work was part of the reason that the Mid-Atlantic G2G was so successful, James. The holiday ornaments were pretty much her idea from start to finish and she really pulled it off. She was great!

If I attend I will definitely be down for creating/supplying some appropriate swag action.

PS: September seems to be the month for old-timey baseball and old car shows at Greenfield Village. Something to consider 😀

Bump. Message sent to the yes/maybe group to prepare for the next steps. Let me know if you are also interested. Obligatory watch shot taken during a recent trip to Quebec. Old school “four à pain » and the pizzas were excellent.

Yay!! A Fortis in the environment for which it was actually made- not just timing parking meters
