Determining reference number and value of 1962 Constellation

Hello,

Some time ago I inherited an 18k gold 1962 Constellation with what I understand to be a 'beads of rice' bracelet. It came with a certificate of authenticity and serial number that helped me pin down the date - however, I'm not sure what the reference/model number is. If it is engraved inside the case, I'd rather not to open it to find out. The watch keeps time as new.

My questions for you:

Can you help me determine the reference or model number from the date below?

A coin vendor confirmed that the watch was 18k gold, however, I am unsure if it is plated or solid. I assume plated, but I know nothing about gold or jewelry - the only gold I've owned is a wedding ring I threw into a volcano a few years back to break a terrible curse.

I am also unsure of what the bracelet is made of, the color isn't as vibrant on the top and bottom of the links, and the side of the links appear as plain stainless.

There is a small scuff on the lens between 5 and 6 o'clock and some scratches through the case, particularly the caseback.

What would you believe this watch is worth for resale, and where would you sell it? I was once offered $800 for it by a local watch shop. I've seen listings for similar models up to $12,000 on Chrono24, but I assume those are extreme outliers for like new watches. My guess is that smaller gold watches like this are also less fashionable or in demand than large stainless divers and the like.

The watch has no sentimental value to anyone in my family, and I do not seeing myself wearing it, so I do not have any internal resistance to selling it as I am currently out of work and liquifying assets. Thanks for your help!

Hello,

It looks like a ref. 168.005 De Luxe, in solid gold. No idea about the bracelet : you most certainly have a number engraved in the clasp, that might help.

The condition is quite nice btw 👍

Hi @blk

Great inheritance. I‘d say it‘s a OT 14903 given that the „Officially Certified“ script is missing. So if I‘m not mistaken, not only the case is made of solid gold, but also the dial. You can tell the case is solid gold by the hallmarks on the lugs.

I‘m surprised the certificate didn’t mention the reference.

This one got sold for over €4700 but came with the original papers.

I would keep it if I were you. It looks great.

Good luck.

I think you’re pretty much spot on.
it could be a 168.006 deluxe but I think more likely a 14903 deluxe with gold dial.
However, the one at auction had a solid gold bracelet too.
This is a nice watch and very desirable with the dogleg lugs and gold pie pan dial - but the case has lost its definition, so not a collector’s piece.
Still probably a $2000+ watch though.

the gold plated bracelet might sell on its own for $100-$200

best place to sell to get the highest price would probably be eBay
