Do the clothes, haircut, etc really make you feel differently about who you are as an individual though? Did the clothes get you in the door for the interview or did the skillset you developed during your career open that opportunity to you?

I did one job interview in blue & white one-piece motorcycle leathers because they had asked if it would be possible to drop in on my way home. I do not know if the idea of a man in his 50s going for a managerial post and riding motorbikes to get to work or my 30 years in software development that got me the job. 🙄

The old & new companies were at opposite ends of Milton Road Cambridge, and two wheels is the only sane way to deal with Milton Road 😲

Looking at this survey states the obvious.
A lot of people desire a Rolex or Patek but can not afford one.
No big deal a lot of people desire a Ferrari or a Porsche but can not afford one.
People buy what they can afford and dream of what they desire.
A used Posche is cheaper than a Rolex nowadays!

Speedmaster and subs are nice watches and a bit overhyped to some extent at the moment. Getting a bargain on those right now is getting highly unlikely.

However there are so many nice brands, which are still out of focus (probably many dont see them as "good investment") and so called "bargains" (relatively speaking) still can be found.
I occasionally see some nice deals on Blancpain, JLC, GO, Chopard, etc. of course they are no 100,-€ deals but still a lot of watch for the money.
Its actually the rapid price increase i have to thank that made me look into other brands, so its also a good thing 😀

But generally i agree with you.
That’s what nuts- it’s the rapid price increases-across the board, not just Rolex. I was able to plink off 34mm oysters for $1.5k, Seawolfs for $300, 666’s for $350 all day long…not 2 years ago!

It seems like many enthusiasts are forced to look elsewhere, so probably price increase in Rolex models has indirect effect on less popular brands.

Rolex is the only watch worth collecting, no other watch matters- everyone stay focused on Rolex, nothing to see here, folks.

And people with brown hair are ugly, too. Brown!?

Also, people who like Porsches, or BMWs, are irreparable douchebags.

Finally, anyone who would purchase a modern Omega dive watch anywhere near MSRP, definitely have spouses cheating on them.

Anyone else have air broad generalizations of taste stated as objective fact in a manner that will clearly implicate 1/3-1/2 of the participants in the conversation?

😎
Looks like I'm an ugly douchebag and my wife is cheating on me. I've learned a lot about myself in a very short time ... it's nice to know where I stand! 😗

Thank god you don’t have any modern Rolex, the only irreversible sin.

Even 15yo cayenne???
I mean, I guess depends on the Rolex, depends on the Porsche.

For that matter some Omegas are more expensive than a Porsche...and many other watch brands are more expensive than 2 Porsches.

Because of the huge difference between
1. Wristwatch world
2. Wristwatch community
3. Wristwatch enthusiasts

Porsche and Rolex. Interesting juxtaposition. No bargains here in the states either. My mechanic, who works on many luxury brands….”Porsche is the only luxury brand where the build quality is commensurate with the price.” …

In Germany, you can definitely find a 15 year old Cayenne for less than a Submariner!
Yes, Europe I know. Australia has raised my eyebrows.
