I've come to the conclusion that there is a very specific methodology to ebay sales box of watch lots. Makes sure to take several slightly out of focus pictures, and arrange the most interesting looking watches slightly hidden so you can't quite tell what is there. Makes sure to take them from at least 3 feet away so that any detail is lost. Under no circumstances do you display them individually - that's for sales of 15 watches or less only. Oh and all listed brands in the titles that are the least bit interesting will of course be ladies watches.
Yes! Hahaha

The most upsetting part is that it's a bigger waste of time than other annoying practices, like the guy who lists a new (typically ugly) generic strap "for Omega" in the title. 馃憥

Selling "poor man's heuers" for 6k does not make any sense! A poor man would buy for max 100 USD.

Dear ebay sellers: Don't list a jillion watches where only some of them are Omegas and the rest have Omega in the description and then they come up when I search on Omega in Title and Description. I feel sorry for the poor chap who finally tries to list one Omega just to be buried inpages of other Omegas and non-Omegas. I won't say which seller/country, but instead of looking at title I just look at country of seller and zip on by.

Dear ebay sellers: L@@K! In the description does not impress.
Dear ebay sellers: Rare and Timex should not be used in the same listing.

Dear Japanese Ebay sellers, please stop relisting 287 watches at a time.

Dear eBay sellers,
When I ask casual questions about your watch, don't panic and say you are thinking about taking it down and still have the watch up for sale. Yes. You sent this email 4 days ago and its still on eBay, collecting watchers. Why do you LIEEE?

Ok two more. One: Title says "14K......" and listing or pic shows it is 14k gold filled. Two, (well two plus): I have had indestructible bare cases or a part like a crown that is shipped in bomb proof packing and I have had complete running watches wrapped in a single tissue inside a non padded envelope and shipped. Plus: "Expedited shipping" and they either ship it a week and a half after I paid immediately or I've paid beyond reasonable for shipping and they either ship it priority a week and half later or just plain send it snail mail.

I bought a watch from Italy once that was wrapped in thin clear plastic sheet, then single sheet of tissue paper, then stapled inside a folded piece of paper with shipping info. Arrived broken, of course. Seller immediately said send it back, and refunded money. Great, right? but I asked him why the poor packaging...he said anything that looks nice gets stolen so he has to make it look like crap and risk the shipping damage to sell anything by mail. Oh boy.

BTW, he advised I do the same to send it back.

Footnote...he got it back and repaired it, then offered it back to me a bit cheaper for my trouble. Had to say thanks but no thanks. Nice guy, though.

Ok, not to name names, but thank you closer0924 for currently posting just under 5000 watches and listing them so that when I search Omegas under title and listing I seem to get all 4945 or whatever. Why am I so happy? Because I had forgotten about those Chronoswiss skeleton chronographs that I've always thought looked so cool and he/she has one (maybe 50 more?) posted. Also thank you to sellers who post 10K gold filled watches that are actually solid gold because they don't know any better than to look at the marking on the crappy Speidel band and disregard opening and looking at the solid gold marking inside the case. Also thanks to the ebay sellers who cannot spell correctly and I come across a watch I really like and luck out being the only interested bidder to bid accordingly and then end up with a cool watch. Foreign sellers not included in general gramatical (purposely mispelled馃榾) mistakes because I could never list overseas and be heard perfectly. But to misspell a watch's name when it is printed on the dial. Come on!

Dear eBay sellers,
Stop using the phrase when selling a POS, "For the collector".

Just saw an ebay listing for an old Seamaster with a rather "toned" dial. Here's a new one. "The dial has an amazing 2 tone pumpkin colored patina that goes so well with its dauphine hands." Did not say "tropical" at least馃榾

So here's a warning to all ebay sellers:

I sold a small cheap 50 yr old wind up alarm clock on ebay...

Buyer sends me message that it doesn't run.

I asked if they wound it up.

No response for two days.

Buyer sends message that alarm doesn't work.

I asked if they wound up the alarm.

No response for two days.

Then Buyer posts negative feedback on me without any further request for help of any kind, stating product wasn't as expected.

I messaged the buyer to ask why.

They didn't know what a wind up clock was.

So here's the thing about eBay...it used to be that you could change your feedback, and in the worst case the other party could respond to the bad feedback in the feedback field. Well, not any more. Now its permanent, and no responses allowed.

What's worse? Sellers can't post bad feedback on Buyers, period, for any reason. It's not even an option to choose. I can send a complaint to eBay, but only if the buyer violated ebay rules...not for being an idiot.

So now I'm stuck with my first bad feedback. I know its not the end of the world, but I've been on ebay for 20yrs, and never once had bad feedback. Now I do, from an idiot who didn't know what a wind up clock was.

There is an option for you to reply to negative feedback, it鈥檚 hidden under respond to feedback left or something similar in the feedback forum section.

Thanks guys, you're great!

The ability to reply is hidden(ie its not in the standard menu feedback section). At least now I can respond to it.

I find it interesting that elsewhere on eBay they say the feedback cannot be changed, but subsequently through your great advice I found that this is still possible, though only with a formal request, which is buried too. It used to be that an ebayer could change it on their own.

Thanks again, what a relief.

Update: I've appealed to the buyer's higher self with a message to consider an alternate resolution. we'll see. I think he is embarrassed he bought something he knows nothing about, and kneejerk responded on feedback. So I'm not going to respond to his feedback just yet, in case he gets his wits about him and is willing to change it.

BTW, I'll also say that it is becoming harder to sell on eBay than years ago. I sold three motorcyles last year on eBay motors, and all of the buyers came back asking for more stuff they think they deserved. "Hey I just read that this model came with a windshield/backrest, so you need to send me that"....Sorry, I didn't get one when I bought it, and it wasn't in the listing as part of the sale. That happened TWICE. The third complained the bike didn't run. Turns out he literally didn't know how to start it (ie turn on the ignition). He killed the battery. So I had to go over how to start it, but also how to get a battery charger and hook it up and get it running. Seriously, he didn't have, nor know how to use a battery charger.

Fortunately, I've received very thankful responses from buyers who were absolutely delighted, so that makes it worthwhile, plus there is nothing else like ebay out there so we're all stuck with dealing with the occasional idiot.

I avoid Ebay like it's the plague. I've had three bad experiences selling (one was and idiot like was just posted, 2 others were straight up scams where I lost out of my property) The issue isn't just the people who you deal with but is mostly Ebay for protecting these buyers and offering zero protection for the sellers.

Since i'm charged up about this, I'll comment that these days eBay doesn't need more sellers, they need more buyers. Years ago they needed sellers in competition with Amazon, but nowadays the way Amazon is treating sellers with massive fees and not addressing the scammers, ebay now has their fill. Bottom line is eBay's revenue is based on buyers, and eBay spends a fortune trying to get more buyers, and will protect them at nearly any cost.

It's good to know that the ridiculous 10% fee I have been paying on sales are actually paid by the buyer.
