I remember seeing a thread a while ago and someone explained how to spot the 80's edition as there are a couple of tells. I remember seeing them in store windows in the early 80's in Zurich, as I recall they were the equivalent of about US$2,400 back then. I considered one but never bought one. Nice watch.

I have a 40's JLC triple date and it just has a simple serial number on the case back and has the little tab. And I don't think the originals had signed JLC crowns, mine doesn't but I'm not absolutely sure it is the original crown. And it would be relatively hard to find an original JLC that still has the original gold buckle, I don't think I've ever seen one. So the one you are looking at looks like a newer one.

Mind, 1980s isn't exactly yesterday either, as my kids keep telling me...
