It’s been over a year, but I finally got my Dads cosmic 2000 diver back from Omega! it was in pretty bad shape when I sent it in last March (pasting the original thread below...thanks to everyone who provided advice). Not sure why it took so long, but I am thrilled to have it back. After going back and forth about how much work to get done, I decided for a complete overhaul, so it’s basically a brand new watch. There’s a lot of history with this watch ...my dad wore it for 15 years (never serviced) until he put it in a drawer in 1985 after my mom bought him a new Datejust. It’s Great to see it restored to its former glory. Pasting a few before and after shots for comparison.

I ended up replacing the bracelet for the watch with a service bracelet (ref 1181/215) but realizing now that the original bracelet was in pretty decent shape, so I may get it cleaned up and put back on the watch. Curious though if anyone is familiar with the markings on the original. First of all, it looks like a ref number was etched in by hand. Also, it says “depose” on the clasp. The original ref number should be 1198/195. Also, if anyone can recommend a good bracelet repair shop in or near San Francisco, it would be appreciated!!

This is the clasp on the bracelet that came with mine. I have no reason to think it's not original to the watch.

Regarding to your initial post on your watch the reference number is 166.137.
If thats correct 1198/195 should be your bracelet regarding to this:

Yes, the correct bracelet reference is 1198/195. Mine doesn’t have the reference number amd instead has the hand etched numbers 1159 (per the picture above). Just curious why and if anyone has seen something similar on other vintage Omega bracelets . Perhaps it was a factory mistake and someone etched in the numbers after manufacture? Also not sure what the numbers refer to?

There are clasps out there without any number so maybe someone tried to add the reference and made a little mistake by switching the two last letters 😁

Found a local guy to refinish the original bracelet.
