Seamaster De Ville finally back from Switzerland

I picked up my Seamaster De Ville today at my local Omega dealer. It had been at Omega in Switzerland for a full service and refurbishment since last summer. This particular watch has a 14K solid gold case and it’s generally in good condition.

It now has a new genuine Omega crystal, a new genuine Omega alligator long strap, and the movement has been fully serviced. I was actually surprised at how many parts were replaced. The hands are new, the date wheel is new, and virtually all the key moving parts of the movement have been replaced. The entire train of wheels was replaced, the cannon pinion, much of the keyless works, etc. The original balance wheel was retained.

I’m very pleased with the outcome. It was worth the wait.

Hello! Do you have pictures of your watch prior to that service at Omega?

I’ll dig a few up. It didn’t look dramatically different, as it was in good overall condition cosmetically.

Do you mind sharing how much they charged for the service? Did they polish the case, or was it polished already? Did you have lumed hands before?

Good questions. They polished the case for me, and it looks great. I’ll post more photos. They also replaced the crown, which I wasn’t expecting. To my knowledge, the crown that I had was original, but I may be mistaken. The original hands did not have lume, so the new hands are appropriate. The original hands were flat/square at the tip rather than pointed like the new hands. My assumption is that there was corrosion or discoloring on the original hands so they replaced them. There was some light oxidation or corrosion visible on the gold bezel, and it was replaced. They transferred my original solid gold buckle to the new long Omega strap. The service was $650 plus insured shipping and the cost of the new strap.

This watch belonged to my grandfather. After he died, it sat in a drawer at my grandmother’s house for many years. It was running when I received it, but not well. The original strap had been removed and replaced with a cheap metal band.

Here’s a photo pre-service:
