Considering a purchase - Constellation 2852

Hi everyone,

I found a listing for a solid rose gold constellation and was hoping for some insights from you guys regarding authenticity.

Couple of things that I have noticed:

1. Missing “i” on “swiss made” is really odd, I’ve never seen that before.

2. Caliber is marked 505 however the rotor is a 19 jewel, which based on some reading I have done on this forum is incorrect, and my point to it being a Franken?

My untrained eye says the dials and case looks good, however please enlighten further on what you guys think.

Thanks in advance!

Looks highly suspect, as dial is high gloss we just don't see that all that much. That and I'm not familiar with a caseback being hallmarked. Strange indeed. The missing I is enough to me to say redial. It doesn't pass the smell test either way for me.

Is this from that dealer on Reddit?

Pretty confident that’s a redial. The fonts are a little off and don’t appear to be gilt as they should be. Also, the hands should be faceted on these - not flat. The “I” would only be missing if it was cleaned off, but in this case, I suspect it was just missed or didn’t properly take when they applied the redialed print..

Doesn't pass the smell test, your are right!

I'm not familiar with this reference but the printing looks excellent.

Could it be that the redialers get such a job done on this quality level and 'forget' the "I" in Swiss???

Waiting for the experts opinion 🍿

This is a frankenwatch for sure, although I would love to have that rotor for a different project.

I’m not convinced that this is a redial, but I would never buy a black dialed Constellation like this without an in-person inspection.

Strange about the faded/missing "I" when "swss made" is written so clearly.
Like you already spotted and according to pictures I see online, 505 should have 17 or 24 jewels.
On this rotor it says 19?

If you zoom right in on the legend, you can see that the letters are distinctly off (notably the Ls and Es which dip at the end) and any serifs are perfunctory or entirely absent. There's black smudging on some of the letters and the As can barely stand up. I wouldn't have any confidence in that dial.

May I share my watch which I believe it was original black dial? 😁

I am moving the OP's dial picture down to compare:

If that's a redial, I'd like to know who did the work. It could be that a master got ahold of it and was able to remove and replace the old lacquer without destroying the gilt printing. I just can't tell.

Too bad about the rotor.

If that dial is original, then something was done to it that messed up the text - not sure what..

And the hands were replaced.

I think it’s sold now by the way.

Here’s another photo:

As I’ve mentioned before, rose gold black dial constellations are rare - when you see one claiming to be an original dial go over it assiduously. I don’t recall seeing an original black dial piepan rose gold constellation. Love to see one here if someone owns one.

Regarding this watch, hard to tell. If the price was reasonable I might have taken a chance despite the obvious flaws.
