Considerations for first watch purchase

Hello everyone.

So I've fallen for this silver 1959 Seamaster Cal 591 Ref. . The dial looks very nice but a new crystal is needed since its broken at the top. The dial and hands seems very nice and so does the case. (Image 1, 2)

My questions is; What would be a realistic price for this watch, since the crystal do have a big crack would a bid of 450 - 500 USD still be considered a "good deal" or would it be over the top for a seamaster with a broken crystal?

And does the "r" in Seamaster look original? I've compared the dial to similar ones and it seems like the way it goes below the font isn't the same for other similar models, why is that? I've attached a photo of a similar dial for what I compared it against with the same ref. #. and same year. maxresdefault.jpg

Thanks!

The dial looks good (despite the pics being too far away). Yes, that price would be right, but demand is increasing the cost of buying omegas.

Hi, Your ref14704 is correct for a 591caliber. But the movement needs a good service.
According to me dial is original. "r" is also original although it is rare. This font is usual when its written under Omega logo as in the pictures Im attaching. Nice watch and 400usd is a fair price but you can find better ones for 500usd I believe.

I posted that first one in the ebay recommended thread, it is a UK watch so you need to factor in taxes if you’re outside of the UK, and UK watches are going higher than normal because of the fact that duty wise the UK is an island of its own now. I think that one will be pretty amazing looking once its been serviced and had a new crystal fitted, keeping in mind new crystals for these vintage pieces are plastic and not overly expensive.

Oh, yea! With the import taxes in mind it will for sure make it much less desirable. Good observation, that will be a dealbreaker for me. Thanks!

Can you get better pictures, in better light, straight on, with the watch front and center, not just a prop. It'd also be nice to see the caseback.
From what's shown it looks like a decent watch.
