“Coming Soon” - New Omega teaser 2022

I love Omega to death, they are my favorite brand by far, but for the life of me I cannot understand why they cannot simply release divers in the 40-42mm range with a thickness not exceeding 14.5 with a tapered bracelet and no fake patina. I I get that the SMP300 exists but there is no tapering bracelet. The Seamaster 300 would be a smash hit if it wasn't for the fauxtina. The Planet Ocean is about as perfect as a diver gets (I actually don't mind the HE everyone seems to loathe, I simply just don't notice it unless I remember it's there), but at 16.3mm thick it's just not a realistic daily wearer for most people. All this is to say that if they introduce another thick dive watch into the lineup then I desperately hope that means the regular Planet Ocean goes down to no thicker than 14mm. In a dream world for me personally it would be 12-13mm thick, but that isn't ever going to happen because it's supposed to be chunkier than the SMP300M, so that wish is irrelevant. They can even keep the 43.5mm diameter because they wear smaller across the wrist than that metric would suggest. From a lineup perspective they can cover all bases by keeping the more specialized versions like the GMT and Chrono as the thicker version of PO's. But currently the PO that is missing from the lineup is the PO that should be the core: black dial/black bezel, 40mm-43.5mm Diameter x 14mm Thickness x 48-49mm L2L with the caliber 8900 inside (for the time zone function that the SMP 300M so tragically lacks) and a fully lumed bezel like we saw on the orange/white. And for a brand that loves reissues, where on earth is the reissue of the 166.024 SM300 with no fauxtina? But thats a conversation for another thread. In short: please, PLEASE, Omega, just give us a thinner Planet Ocean so we can happily wear proudly the best diver on the market.

I think many of us have similar hopes... It makes me wonder though how Omega does market research, after all they somehow determined that people want bigger watches and fauxtina...

From that photo, no… but we already know it’s not at 3 from the photo first shared by you in the OP 👍😗😉

You do realize those are two different watches right?

The photo first shared is from the first video (ultra deep), and the photo shared second is from a completely different video (regular PO update).

What makes you think its two different watches? I think Omega is just hyping up the same watch with new teasers until the official announcement.

Nope, I didn’t lol. Last time I get involved in modern watch discussion 😟

This seems unlikely. The tag line in the second video is “prepare for new depths”. Surely that would apply to the Ultra Deep?

I don't think so. I think it's the same watch in both teasers.

Who needs the date at 1,000 below? 😵‍💫
Well you have no sunlight there so it could definitely come in handy 😀

Yeah, that does appear to be the case now. I'm still hoping for a new PO though. It would be odd to release only the UD and not update the rest of the lineup. We could get something Ploprof-related too.

Looks like they're reverting to male end-links for the bracelet, which doesn't really bode well for those of us with more slender wrists.

I do expect a PO refresh this year. And it has nothing to do with the model in this thread.

Am I in the minority of people who think the 39.5 mm PO is almost the perfect size watch? It's SOOOOO close! I think 0.5 mm thinner, and maybe 1 mm longer lug to lug, and it's perfect. My diver 300M is thinner, but wears thicker on my wrist (flat, 6.75 inches). It's a different matter if you want the 8900 in a PO. 8800 and 8900 are both great. I picked the watch that fits me best. Definitely can't pull off the 43.5 mm.

Anecdotally, I would say the majority of the OF community agrees with you, but the overall Omega Planet Ocean buyers do not. Authorized dealers consistently keep less stock of the 39.5 presumably due to less demand.

Personally, I think the 39.5 would fit me better, but I'm of the opinion that the PO is meant to be large, so I went 43.5.

...Ok full disclosure I went with the 43.5 because that's the one I got a deal on, but I don't regret it! 😀

I wouldn't agree, 39.5 would be too small for me.
My smallest diver is 41mm and I was iffy about that one for a while.

My problem with the 39.5 PO is that the bezel is actually like 37mm. The extra size comes from the crown guards which makes the watch wear even smaller and creates an out of proportion look compared to the thickness. The old 42mm 2500 PO had a 40mm dial and the crown guards made it 42mm. This made it proportional in size and thickness.

They did, but for just 1 mm of your arbitrary personal maximum thickness spec. The first gen PO is 42 mm with a thickness of 15.5 mm and has a tapered bracelet and no fake patina. And a beautiful solid case back, in the Seamaster tradition. It is where the entire PO line began. They've been there and done that. You can buy one.

That’s true. My AD doesn’t have the 39.5mm in stock. Only the larger variants.

I don't think we are in disagreement, as I didn't assess what would fit your wrist. 😁

I think the watch world needs to end these trite teases. just release it.
