Switzerland - European Union, as far as I know, but someone correct me if I am wrong.

EDIT - just checked - no import duties both ways, but VAT of the country of import must be paid. So this should be strongly taken into consideration. Thanks for your question, I have learnt something (and will die stupid anyway 😉 )

Switzerland is not a full trading partner of the EU, and individuals are indeed required to pay customs duties in addition to VAT. Some companies are exempt with regard to certain products, but anyone in the EU who purchases a watch in Switzerland is technically required to pay duties which will add significant cost. This works in both directions, of course.

The valuation of this btw is stupid, as are so many tech or pseudo tech businesses right now. A lot of my mates in tech that went through the dotcom era are starting to sound a lot like @Tony C. at the moment with how much stupid money is floating around.

As the late economist Herb Stein once commented, "when something cannot go on forever, it will stop". Nothing is immune to this law. Even gross incompetent government spending eventually hits the wall. And so it will be with watches.

+1. The good thing is that most (professional) Swiss sellers will - upon request - ship from the EU

sort of related, has anyone seen what "watchcharts" is doing lately?

definitely a different breed of watch "collectors" out there....
Ch24 has very similar benchmarks and charts since years. "Collectors do not hang out" on Watchcharts nor any other search engine which is indexing the listings and prices from various sources.

I've sold a lot on chrono over the years. And I bought a couple. Mostly from dealers. Never had any problems. Perfect marketplace. But as always, do your due diligence.

A fantastic concept, only let down by the amount of personal info you trust them to keep safe. One hack and the ID info collected is amazing.

Very true - you need to watch out here! There is a common issue of cross-border selling between Switzerland and neighbouring countries - often it is cheaper to do groceries e.g. in France and bring it to Basel... there is a price difference as well as tax difference. Such entertainment of course is not appreciated by Swiss authories and is welcomed with a fine. If it applies to groceries then I think it is also very true for watches.

Wasn't there a chrono24 team-up with FratelloWatches ? 👎

It was more of Fratello used their tracking of prices graphs. (Like many do nowadays) Nothing official….

When you have 50 emails a week about investment in watches you have to give in and have the occasional article about investment.

Don’t think we can jump to “Team Up” just off one article…..

Even titled it “the Dirty question”

I've sold two watches on Chrono24 without any problems at all.
Very nice site IMO and with only 6.5% if your watch sell on their site and they give you three months to pay the ammount to them.
Very thoughtful and cool from their part!

Have good experiences with the site, both buying and selling. I agree it would be good to have reviews available, then again you do have ample time to communicate with the seller and do background research. That being said, I find it also important how they do conflict resolution. I once had a few issues with a watch I bought, and it was resolved nicely.

Statistically the Americans are less trouble from an admin perspective than their percentage would indicate.
We tend to elect morons to lead us and have far too many guns, but we’re generally a decent, law abiding, fair minded bunch and we enjoy getting to know others outside of our borders. And here’s another +1 for C24 - nothing but good experiences both buying and selling.

I never purchased from there so I was wondering does the escrow service work for credit card and bank wire payments? I’ve been seeing a Skywalker on there that I have been thinking about getting. Thank you.

While what I’m saying here is not about Chrono24, you guys would be genuinely shocked by the quantity and depth of data and information that has been shopped around to us by a range of third parties. It’s not hacked or leaked data, its data people have given freely to various websites and organizations which are then aggregated, de-anonymized, combined with additional data sets and sold for profit. We don’t have any money to buy that stuff nor is it really useful to us as we’re a forum and don’t sell any products ourselves but I’ve watched presentations where email addresses and/or phone numbers can be used to create an extremely detailed profile of users, with supposedly anonymized cell tower data from phone companies being used to even track ethnicity, religion, and what brand of car users own as well as where they live. Its scary how much is out there and for sale.

We’re all just plankton in the tide of data collection.

Chrono24 knows both that I secretly like the Nautilus, and that I can’t afford it. It benevolently allows me to look at them, anyways.

Team-up? Aren't they owned by the same holding company?
"MPN Marketplace Networks GmbH, the holding company that owns Chrono24, German pre-owned watch firm Zeitauktion and online watch magazine Fratello."

So if I get the gist of this thread correctly, Chrono24 seems to be quite recommended as selling (and buying, but that's not my concern right now) platform, at least for Europe, while OF might be better for the North American market.
I have too many watches, need to reduce, and am looking at C24 to sell some of them.

However, I'm getting really annoyed at the platform's insistence to publish ads, like the blue «your ad as almost finished» popping up all over the place, and the fact that I apparently can't prepare and save multiple ads - whenever one is saved but not yet published, whatever I do I get only this one ad to edit and thus can't create any other ads, forcing me to publish before I can add another watch. I find this behaviour really pushy and quite impractical.

Did y'all just go along with this, or is it my browser acting up? Safari sometimes can be a bit... overconfident in its cache engine - it's a true Apple product.

One complaint I have about Chrono24 is that they ask all the time for photos of your watch with the ID,to prove that you have the watch!
That is kinda frustrating!
I was just doing it for three watches, that's why I thought of it 😁
