Can I trust an overseas seller?

I have always loved watches but have never been able to afford a nice one. I've had a good year at work and was thinking of finally getting an Omega Seamaster. I prefer the solid back as opposed the exhibition back, and I have smaller wrists so I was trying to find a Seamaster 300 1957 trilogy as opposed to what is currently being sold.
I found one on Chrono24:
https://www.chrono24.com/omega/seam...r-1957-trilogy-23410392001001--id25598407.htm

Can I trust buying a watch online especially from an overseas seller? If I did buy it is there a way to have it authenticated within the 14 day return window? Is there anything else I should be asking?

This is a large purchase for me and I have no experience with higher end watches so I am TRYING to be smart.
Thanks

Where are you in the world…?

If it’s your first real watch…buy from a store…yes a bit more, but the experience and piece of mind is worth the extra.

I have bought a lot of watches overseas (probably 90%) so it’s safe as long as you buy the seller.

Had a look at link and it’s from a reputable Japanese dealer…

No, only people in your home country are trustworthy ... whatever country that is. 🙄

Well he’s asking people on a Australian forum…He might be asking people overseas

(Don’t mind us @shade it’s just the forums usually dry banter)

Thanks for the input. I live in New York City so it's easy to get a watch form an actual dealer. I just can't find the particular watch that I want here.

It's not that I don't trust people from other countries, but I have no way to reach the people if there is something wrong with the watch. I also am inexperienced with buying watches so it would be easier to scam me.

Sounds like it's more about logistical concerns than trust. There are plenty of scammers in the US, and even in NYC. So do your due diligence regardless.

OP, that dealer and watch looks fine, I don't think you would have any issues with it being a counterfeit watch. You are protected from losing your money in any sort of scam operation by C24 policy. Couple of things to keep in mind is you will be charged New York state sales tax and likely some duty (maybe $125 or so), so figure that into your final price. And make sure that all the links are on the watch, many Japanese sold watches have been shortened for the local audience. There is a pic of the bracelet but I don't think all the links are present. It says it will fit an 18.5cm wrist, that's about 7.25", so it appears some links are missing. And if you need to buy a couple of links that just adds to the final cost. Someone here who has this watch should be able to confirm what the proper link count is. I just looked at my Speedmaster Trilogy, which is the same series as the watch you are looking at, and I think you are likely missing THREE links on the six o'clock side and ONE link on the 12 o'clock side. That's significant.

Watch looks good, seller looks good, nice price and with all the goodies (I own this exact watch, and wear it daily)... I say, "Proceed forth".

I own this watch from new... you are correct. It's missing four total links.

To the OP... message the seller through C24 and inquire if they are, perhaps, in the box -- maybe even tucked into a nook or cranny.
Outside of that, know your wrist size and either you'll be fine or just visit an Omega AD or boutique in NYC and purchase the additional link(s) needed to get yourself squared away.

Have you physically checked on 47th st in the diamond district? I would try there before the foreign deal as there will be many reputable second hand watch dealers within a short two block area, literally hundreds of them. It would take you the better part of a week to visit all the dealers in those multi-floor buildings. I can't imagine not finding a late model Seamaster of any type there. Best is you can haggle and if there's a problem with the watch running-wise it's not difficult to get them to make things right. They want to keep their customers happy.

I do have small wrists.... But I emailed the seller earlier to see if they had the extra links. Thanks!

I have made a few overseas purchases from chrono24. That platform is very safe, and you have to approve watch before money is released. If you pay with a credit card, that will protect you even more. Would be happy to speak to you about this

Also. looked at the listing and seller. The seller has over 6k transactions and is from Japan. I would say with a high degree of certainty you will get what you pay for, will be authentic and you will be happy. The set is also complete which is what you want.

I took a chance on an eBay watch from Moldova. It was exactly what I wanted and as described. Did raise my opinion of one of the poorer EU countries.
The shipping time was excruciatingly slow. I think the watch sat in customs for a few weeks.
Do not have any experience with c24. I find the site navigation there to be too busy for casual browsing.
The only time I have been scammed, was by a US seller who did not send the item in the photograph. Sending instead one generic 'part' instead of something 'new in original packaging as shown.'

Trust difficult to calculate really.I’m in the Uk bought a watch from Uk dealer ,brand new.Ten weeks later I still can’t get them to provide the warrenty card that should have come with the watch.PayPal we’re no help whatsoever.I think going into a bricks and mortar store and seeing what you want in front of you is the best option.

Thank all so much for your help. I heard back from the Japanese dealer and they do not having the missing links. I may go look around NYC on a day off to see if I can find that Trilogy Seamaster here. I also came across a seller on this forum selling the current Seamaster that was my second choice. It's less than I would pay from the dealer here. Any thoughts on sellers on this forum?

I am going to do a little more research on my day off this week.

Thanks again for all the useful information, very much appreciated!
