Buy and hold so far, but only 3 years in.

2 Rolex
2 Omega
1 Movado/Zenith
1 Bulova Accutron
1 Seiko
2 Micros with another one shipping in April

I can see trading or selling sometime in the future. This could be tough though, as I usually buy to celebrate accomplishments.

Interesting thread. I will stick my neck out at the risk of exposing my obsession... But I know many forumites who are much worse. 馃槣

Right now, the collection stands as:
2 Breitling
1 Bulova
1 Doxa
1 Ducado
1 Elgin
1 Excelsior Park (branded on the dial)
1 Gruen
3 Hamiltons
9 Heuers
3 Lemanias (branded on the dial)
1 Lip
2 Lorenz
2 Movado
1 O&W
1 Rotary
2 Sinn
1 Squale
1 Sturmanskie
3 Tissot
1 Triton
1 Universal Gen猫ve
1 Vulcain
1 Waltham
2 Yema
5 Zenith
1 ZRC
A drawer full of steel bracelets, all vintage.

6 watches are divers, the rest are chronographs.
5 could be considered modern, the rest are at least 30 years old.
158 watches have been through my hands in... More than 10 years of collecting. It goes back further, but it has been at least that long since I got serious.

Serious. Looks more like a disease. 馃え

Wow, that's a lot of watches you've gone through over the years!! I'm not a collector, so I only have 3, but I'm impressed that you've purchased 15 watches in just the last 6 months!

Anything more than one is a collection 馃憤

I am a late bloomer in this devilish art馃榾 and living in Rio I have only felt safe buying retail directly from ADs or brand boutiques. So far I have reached 08 watches (1 Breitling, 5 Omegas, 1 Rolex, 1 JLC) and will probably add 2 new purchases (Rolex, IWC) to reach 10 by the end of the year. I have no intention to sell any...I intend for all to be keepers, so my choices are getting harder every year!

Chronology so far:

May 2013: Breitling SuperOcean Heritage 42mm, SS Mesh Bracelet, now blue leather OEM, AD retail
Sep 2013: Omega AT 15000 Gauss, SS Bracelet now Barenia OEM with deployant, OB retail
Nov 2013: Omega Hour Vision Orbis, OB retail
Mar 2014: Rolex Explorer 2 Polar 216570, AD retail
Sep 2014: Omega Speedmaster XI-45 with Ti Bracelet, OB retail
Feb 2015: Omega Seamaster 300 MC SS Bracelet, now on OEM "Bond" Nato, OB retail
Mar 2015: JLC Ultrathin Reverso DuoFace, JLC boutique retail
Nov 2015: Omega Tresor YG, OB retail.

Cheers!

Personally, I like (and keep) a small collection. Would be a lot smaller if many did not have sentimental value:

Omega Speedy Pro 145.022-69 "220" (c1969)
Seiko Sport Divers 6106-8100 (c 1969)
Tudor Submariner 79090 (c1989)
Omega Speedy Pro 3592.50 (c 1992)
Swatch Irony (c 1993)
Rolex Submariner Date 16610 Mark II (c2001)
Omega Seamaster Pro "Bond" 2531.80 (c 2007)
Omega Seamaster Pro "Sword Hands" 2254.50 (c2007)
Omega Aqua Terra 2504.80 (c 2007)
Omega Speedmaster MKII Re-Issue (c 2014)

bought far too many - sold maybe only 5 - so you may call me a hoarder...

I must confess I can麓t stop.

Some "not so kind" (馃槈) member here once called me the black hole of Europe...

see you at the support group....

I buy both to hold and to trade. I find that sometimes a watch on the wrist is different than in the picture. If it doesn't tingle that special place when I first put it on, I know it's got to go.

I've had 5 Omegas, one of which I sold. It was a Seamaster 120 that I found just didn't excite me as much as I hoped.

I also have one Breitling, which is my current favorite, one Tissot, one TAG, a Bulova (my grandfathers) and a Seiko. All of these will remain in my collection.

I have a small collection, probably ahead of the game for valuation vs price paid for all the watches I've personally purchased.

Tag Heurer 2000 Series Quartz Chronograph (inherited from my dad)
Omega Seamaster 300 "WatchCo" (Ebay, these have gone up since i bought)
Omega Speedmaster Professional 3578.51.00 "Snoopy Award" (forum bought for a steal)
Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.012 (bought from an estate jeweler for a steal)
Bremont U-2 DLC (AD bought new at a discount, but still under water)
IWC Pilots Watch Double Chronograph "Le Petit Prince" Ref 3718 (wedding gift from my wife)
IWC Spitfire UTC Ref 3251 (forum bought with insurance money from a lost 2254.50)

The IWC Double Chrono will take a big hit in value though as it was purchased new by my then wife to be, but will never be sold for obvious reasons. I've sold one watch (a Stowa MOLEII) that I lost money on, but as it was a cheaper piece it was not a big deal.

I tend to wear my watches for at least a couple of weeks at a time at rotate through them, so suspect that I'm unlikely to grow the collection beyond another few watches, but you never know... 馃榾

Ahh, I ain't sayin'. Never know when some divorce lawyer
or G-man might go googlin'
I guess there's 2 types of us sickos, flippers and hoarders.
I'm the latter. Thank God for the flippers. Prices keep going up
and interest rates lower, so what's the point in selling. Besides,
it takes way too much effort to find these grails.
I sold 1 JLC watch once. I bought it for the box. Shouldn't have sold it. lol

Notice I left out some details.

Based on what you have, I would never sell either! Hoard away, hoard away...

With all of the Rolex talk, and many forums members having multiple Rolex in their collections, I always find it interesting to see the break down of watches.

Some buy and never sell, and other only have 1 watch at time.

Details aren't necessarily important, and this thread is meant to get a snapshot of what members collect, the timeframe that they acquired the pieces, and fluidity of buying and selling.

My collection represents buying and selling over 125 watches in the last 20 years, and I have always focused on dive watches, but have recently gotten into chronos.

6 Rolex (all bought between 1987-2010)
9 Omega (all in the last 6 months, as well as the ones below)
2 Zenith
1 Movado
1 Nivada
1 Technos
1 Yema

Been collecting Omegas for just over ten years now. The first one was a Mk II acquired in '05 from a friend, and then sold three years later after he passed away under tragic circumstances. It wasn't that I was tired of the Mk II - I just didn't want to own that particular one any more.

In between the Mk II and the 910 Flightmaster acquired this year, I've bought three Connies, three Seamasters, a Gen猫ve, an R17.8 tank, a Denison bumper, two chronometers, an 18 jewel 30T2SC ref 2242, plus a ref 2179, without selling a single one. And a Mk II was gifted by a friend back in December; in a sense, my vintage 惟 collection has never experienced a lay-off.

A vintage Longines, five Glash眉ttes, two Grand Seikos, and four Seikos comprise the balance of my current holdings, going back to '03. A few have left: a Zenith, three G O's, and a Fortis. Not planning on disposing of any, other than one (either the new Seiko or the 惟 ref 166.0002 SM) that will go to Dad next month for his 83rd birthday.

Far fewer sales than acquisitions. Five to one isn't only a Doors track 馃榾.
