    Hi All,

I’m not sure if anyone else has thought about this but it has intrigued me what a full set of Speedmasters listed in Speedmaster 101 would be worth. So I gave it a go and added them up from the December 2017 price chart. I know, too much time on my hands.

Not really ground breaking stuff but I was somewhat surprised. It also made me think if anyone out there has a full set in their possession.

All prices in USD. edit (head only)

Good condition......$626,800 (average price per watch $19,587)
Collector condition.......$945,400. (average price per watch $29,543)

Collector condition around 50% premium over good condition on average across all references.

Edit: Premium of collector over good condition per reference.

    2915s..........68%
    2998s..........38%
    105s............52%
    145.012s.....67%
    145.022s.....38%

To calculate the real premium, I guess it would be more interesting to calculate the premium per model and average them out (for instance a big gap in the 2915-1 would skew the results a lot due to its % of the total value of the chart)

The thing that would make you cry is the cost vs value equation.

..that, and all the ones not posted on the site.

    Hi All,

With the Feb 2018 Speedmaster 101 price chart updated I thought it would be interesting to compare with the December 2017 chart

All prices in USD (head only)
So for a full set of Speedmasters listed on Speedmaster 101

    December 2017
    Good condition......$626,800
    Collector condition.......$945,400.

    February 2018
    Good condition....$633,200 (1% increase)
    Collector condition...$1,009,100 (7% increase)

Premium for collector over good condition: overall and per reference:

    ...................Dec 2017.........Feb 2018
    Overall........50%---------------59%
    2915s..........68%--------------84%
    2998s..........38%--------------50%
    105s............52%--------------47%
    145.012s.....67%--------------67%
    145.022s.....38%--------------41%

It's interesting to note that buyers are continuing to pay an increasing premium for the higher quality watches.

    Hi All,

Speedmaster 101 June 2018 price chart has come out (many thanks to @Spacefruit ) and I just wanted to share some stats I've been following.

The updated price for a collector 2915-1 has skewed the figures with a full set of speedmasters in collector condition having gone up by $288,100 to $1,345,700

Premiums paid for collector over good condition Speedmasters are on the rise again except for the 105s. This is due to good condition watches rising in price at a quicker rate than collector condition prices.

Price for a full set of Speedmasters: as listed on
    Speedmaster 101 (USD, head only)

    Condition ....Good .......Collector......Premium:

    Dec 17........626,800........945,400.......50%
    Feb 18.........633,200.......1,009,100.....59%
    March 18.....633,500.......1,057,600.....67%
    June 18 .......650,400......1,345,700.....106%

Premium paid for collector over good condition:
    per reference

    ..............Dec 17....Feb 18....Mar 18....June 18

    over all........50%....59%......67%........106%
    2915s..........68%....84%.....95%.........226%
    2998s..........38%....50%.....60%..........68%
    105s............52%....47%.....47%..........42%
    145.012s.....67%....67%.....67%..........73%
    145.022s.....38%....41%.....46%..........48%

The fact that exceptional pieces command a huge premium is a reality and I strongly believe that condition and originality are key to preserve value.

I am struggling to understand the 2998 section. Copy-paste from 2998-3 down to -62... Do we lack sales examples here ? Could be a kind of explanation...

Apart from -3s that have leaf hands which could warrant a smallish premium, do you find that a -4 or a -5 should be/are more valuable than a -6/-61/-62 ?
I would like to get a 2998 sometime down the road, and to be honest in my mind there are either the Base1000 ones and the rest of them :D

Yes, I do - a Wally Schirra (-4) is by all means worth more to me than a -62, for example. But it's my opinion :) And yes I agree with your "Base1000 and the rest of them" - unfortunately I don't have any from the rest of them so far :D

Interesting. To me, a -4 is cooler than a -62 but I wouldn't spend more on it, but then again I've spent "more" on a 145.012 just because it was a -68 and not a -67. Maybe with experience I'll get there :)

Prices in the chart are reflective not predictive.

If there is no action there is no movement, and that is why it looks backwards not forwards.

Also please please bear in mind, this is my own reference chart, you may have different ideas and experiences and that is fine, I am not looking for a fight in any of this.

For example you may think that all the Good prices are 20% too high.

Or all 321 prices 10% too low.

So it still gives relative values.

There are so many variables, and now that prices have risen so much, reaching a consensus on values is getting harder.

Also when i first made this, there were four or five private watches selling on ebay every week.

    Now its mostly dealers.

I’d spend more on a -68 than a -67 too, as they appear to be rarer. Similarly, I’d pay more for a 105.002-62, alpha or baton hands, than any of the 105.003’s because so few were made. I suspect that as the market continues to mature, these distinctions will be even more strongly represented in estimated values.

61/62, the least desirable of the 2998s....

Rarity doesn't always equal collectibility in my experience.

-71's are relatively less common than -69's with DNN of course. But the -69's are still more expensive.
