A 321 caliber reintroduction this year with the upcoming 50years moon landing anniversay and you don't use that movement for the 50y LE....mmmmmh that would be a stupid move.
We know they aren't using the re-released 321, which is an exact clone of the vintage 321s.
However, this doesn't mean they will use the 1861.
We only have one teaser, and it is only the start of the year. For all we know, Omega may have made a more advanced caliber with 321 architecture that will go into the LEs for 2019.

I genuinely don't get the interest in rereleasing the DoN bezel. Some of the features of 60's Speedmasters can be used to help identify period correct parts but have an aesthetic appeal as well, such as the applied logo, step dial, alpha hands.

However, the DoN bezel is purely used to identify it as a correct 60's part. Putting the dot over the ninety rather than next to it doesn't make it any more attractive. A modern DoN bezel is still modern so why the desire from some quarters to reintroduce it???

No desire/interest from me, but Omega may think that it's a money making idea.

Interesting that the 50th Anniversary Apollo 11 Speedmaster commemorates the 145.022-69 which was the initial use (1968 actually) of the 861 movement. I would have thought that a 321 would have been reintroduced earlier but better late, or illogical, than never. My other question is:

ARE THEY REINTRODUCING THE PAPER CLIP?

Shhhh @dougiedude still has paperclip nightmares 😉

Will see what comes 2019. I don’t mind if DNN or DNN. I agree with DavidT an applied logo and stepped dial I would prefer me mostly

This is the day that I have been waiting for, for a long time. And I know that many of your Speedmaster fans out there have been waiting for this as well. That day that Omega announces that they will bring their famous column-wheel caliber 321 chronograph movement back in production. Today is the day […]

This will probably affect prices of 1970+ speedmasters... Very curious to see what happens

As usual, a hornets nest of different opinions, compliments and criticisms. I don't know how many times I have read on OF 'bring back the 321' ... so to me the biggest take from this whole resurrection is this : Omega actually reads this forum and gives folks what they want. They give a damn about our community.

I can't see how anybody can say anything negative about that.

The only thing I can't help to think ... a pity they hadn't put this movement in the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster. Imagine that...

Well said!

Now if only they'd introduce:
- a gorgeous Soleil dial LE, with AML, baton hands and creamy fauxtina markers, and a
- a modern solid flat-link or 1171-looking bracelet

Would love to see the above introduced in a FOIS case... I'd likely pull a muscle ripping my wallet open to get my credit card...

Put it in an asymmetric case, and game over. That’s it. No more watches for me. I’ll sell everything, and have that as my one and only.

FIFY

Remember... Omega seems to be listening to us, let's not discourage them by threatening to stop buying new watches! (even if true) 😉

Cost of manufacturing and reliability ( looks at column wheel, and beat rate).
321 re-issue was bound to happen. It first entered my mind when I saw the Speedy Mark 2 homage (automatic with column wheel), and solidified when I saw all of those nice Longines watches with column wheels.. I'm like "if this is no longer so hard to make, when are they going to put this back into the Moonwatch?"

As Omega have said this won't be in this years moon landing LE I can't help but think that Omega want a slice of the waitlist pie, enjoyed by Rolex, Tudor BB GMT/BB58 and some of the Speedmaster LEs (ST1/2, Snoopy etc). I can see two possibilities here:

1. Omega will trickle out modern, 'heritage', non LE Moonwatches with the 321, step dial and applied logo at twice the price, in addition to the standard 861 Speedmaster.

2. It's Omegas solution to the moonwatch problem. We know Omega have said they have to keep on using the 861 in the moonwatch as putting an automatic coaxial in there will alter it too much from the handwound original. This makes sense from a historical (and marketing) perspective, but the issue from Omegas point of view is that it's keeping their flagship model at an entry level price point - you can't exactly increase the price in a short timeframe without altering something significantly.
So, is the new 321 just the 2019 version of the big black box, with loupe, medallion and Velcro strap. I.e. A way of Omega altering the regular Moonwatch significantly enough to dramatically increase the price of the regular production model, yet not so dramatically that it moves further away from the actual moonwatch.

Omega can then sell you two watches instead of one

What makes you think the Speedy Promis the flagship model? It’s barely used at all in advertising.

Doesn't it advertise itself?

Fair point though, perhaps that's the Seamaster 300? It isn't the PO.

At least in the west I'd say the manual wind Speedmaster and the Seamaster 300 are the two pillars.

It certainly isn't the entry level model it's pricing suggests though.
