    What! Why?

If 861 is "better" why go backwards? I don't get this move, and I bet it might more then annoy vintage 321 collectors.

I'll save judgement until the story unfolds and I am excited to see the 50th!

The more I think about it the less I understand why Omega would do this? Weird move.

Omega's instagram post hints it's related to a scan of the NASA issued Speedmaster worn by Eugene Cernan on Apollo 17 in December 1972
caliber 321 is back ... but it is here to stay ?... guess not and it's probably a LE 2019 edition only...::popcorn::

Crikey! I was sure it would never again appear in an Omega. This may be good from the POV of spare parts for vintage 321s. So it is now a certainty that the 50th will have a 321, step dial, AML and some form of DON.

If all these predictions are true, this could turn out to be the perfect modern Speedmaster (at least for my personal taste). I just hope I'm able to buy one when they are released...

Considering my track record in buying the previous LE's, my chances are not looking good... :(

Would it make commercial sense to do all this for just a one-off LE?

"The new movements will now go into production at OMEGA’s HQ site in Bienne. Uniquely, all aspects of creation will be undertaken within a dedicated Calibre 321 workshop. For each movement, the assembly, as well as the watch head and bracelet assembly will be performed by the same watchmaker."
From what it sounds like, Omega invested a lot into bringing this movement back to reality.
I feel like we're going to get an upgrade to the standard Speedy—but due to the latter half of the quote, I don't think that we're going to see output at the same level we see now.

3.2.1. Liftoff of your money. Replace caliber 1861 and charge another couple grand or so?

I suspect they wouldn’t re-introduce a movement for a one off LE, unless they were planning on a massive number of these, maybe 10,069

If anyone wants to know about the process used to scan the Speedmaster in the museum, here's a link.
