You also have to consider the vintage market/ demand and inflation, so it is a bit more nuanced. I suspect they will bring in a new model rather than increase production. The number of watchmakers may also be a limiting factor here. Hopefully the reduction in automated industrialisation and an increased sales / service need encourages more hands on training.

I can definitively say that there is a large watchmaker shortage here in Switzerland. Most every manufacturer is having a hard time finding new people. We will see how it works out.

I'm in the UK and I have a misaligned Chrono hour hand - when it's reset - it rests at just before the '12' position. Noticeably off centre (approx. 2 mins). Really bugs me. 🙁 Is it worth sending it back to Omega in Bienne for rectification - or is there a risk it will come back with other problems? It's a November. 2020 watch, bought a few weeks ago on the 'Grey market'.

I would send it in, should be covered under warranty anyways, except there is damage from a impact? I am 100% sure it would not leave the factory like this. Are you referring to the hours totalisator I assume. This would drive me nuts. I am wearing mine today by coincidence and it is 100% spot on for central seconds, minutes, and hours hand.

That would probably bug me too much to ignore. If it gets sent off to Bienne for correction expect a lengthy period (six to 12 months) to get it back. Another option is to find an Omega specialist in the UK and have them do the intervention, it's not a difficult operation. You'll void your warranty but the turnaround will be a lot quicker. If the watch is running well other than this issue you probably aren't going to need warranty service in the first five years, when did the warranty start?

The warranty started in November 2020.

There's been no damage or impact to the watch. I think I'll send it back to Bienne via an Omega boutique in London. They quoted me 12 weeks today.

Just wait until a month or two before the warranty period is up and then send it in. Omega will do a full service when resetting the hands and you can extend your service interval out.

I'll see if I can live with that for the next 2 years then! 🙁

I mean, the rationale of bruin20 might be valid speaking in pure $, but I think the added pleasure of having a perfect watch for 2 years is far greater?

That’s probably where I’m headed now. 😀 I want a perfect watch. That hour-hand glitch would constantly bug me.

Good advice would be if you want one, just buy grey at this point. Any of these hitting the market in US Boutiques are spoken for and don't make it to the grey market. I've got a chrono24 saved search and I almost never see one come up new for sale in the US. Japan, Italy, and China are where most of them pop up, occasionally some other Euro countries but US listings are exceedingly rare in my experience. I bought at $20k last year, domestic listing, and couldn't be happier. They just aren't making many of these and you'll never just happen upon one or be able to walk into a Omega Boutique cold and get one.

If it bothers you then get it fixed now, I can't see the logic in having a defective watch and waiting until right before the warranty expires in 2 1/2 years before having it addressed with the idea that you'll get a free service out of it. As you have stated the misaligned hand would constantly bug you. In your case take it to the OB and have them take care of the details.

Just wore my EW 321 while hiking the W trek in Patagonia. It was a pleasure to wear in rain, hail, and sunshine.

There is unfortunately no guarantee that it will be “perfect” when it returns. You can only hope for the best. But if you are obsessive about small details like this one, there’s a good chance that you’ll find something else later. Just read some threads and you’ll see what I mean

Would you say then that the hand mis-alignment is something you'd accept? It wouldn't bother you?

I wonder if they will keep releasing reissues like this. The price is kinda insane, but I personally would rather purchase a vintage re-issue rather than having to go through the tough trials of actual vintage watches.
