Anyone know much the servicing will cost?

Interesting question actually. The 321 and 321 A version of the movement (the vintage movements) are all considered "Bienne only" service, so it will be interesting if the 321B in this watch is allowed "local" service (normal service center) or if they will maintain the false exclusivity by insisting these will also go back to Bienne...

I think this will determine the service pricing, as any steel chronograph is $750 in the US as a baseline, but Bienne servicing is much more...

Question is, how much more? 🍿

You live in cheap state, then. Average state/local sales taxes is around 8.25% except for the handful of states that have no sales tax, none of them considered major watch retailing destinations. That means this watch is about $15,250 for most Americans, assuming no discount. Pricey for an old timey manual wound movement.

You could buy an *actual* Ed White for that sort of money 👎

There are a couple in the private sales forums for about this price. I've been toying with the idea of a vintage Speedy. And the one that makes sense seems to be the Ed White 105.003. It was on the moon the week I was born and actually landed there on my late father's birthday.

I could just about afford it. But which should I go for? This reissue that I can carelessly batter about, or a vintage which deserves much more care and respect? The thing about the vintage is I'm really attracted to the 'battered' look.

I've said this before, but I don't need another watch. I only wear them for vanity and the smug congratulations I give my own fabulous taste. Nobody else notices I'm wearing a nice watch (which is ok as I tell them anyway 👍).

The 105.003's were not moon watches, you will need the next reference for that!

No one needs another watch, it's that we WANT another watch. That's the illness with all collectors.

Reading the article linked in the original post, I'm getting a different impression.

Ok that surprises me. More research needed. I am thinking, if I ever do bite the bullet, it would be the ref Commander Young wore on Apollo 16.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the 105.012's were the start of the moon landing era?

Scroll down to where it says "Third Moon Watch Reference".

Hmmm, I'm sure its been discussed a lot on here before so better people will need to input for sure, here is a serial and reference number list of watches used by NASA -

So it's official then.

$14,100 for a stainless steel chronograph!!! It's more than a Rolex Daytona. The Swatch Group have lost their mind!
No they haven't, they have worked to get to the position that they can compete with Rolex on certain models. And once the few 321's hit the streets they will be sold via grey marketers for $23,000 or so, similar to the Daytona.

Let us not forget that:

For the Calibre 321 project, OMEGA utilised a dedicated team of experts who worked efficiently over two years and in total secrecy to bring the movement to life. The small group was composed of researchers, developers and historians, as well as the finest craftsmen and experienced watchmakers

Furthermore they used that digital tomahawk cryptonite scan they told ud about in their press release. I don’t think they will let mere mortal watchmakers touch that piece. I estimate service will come with a premium over the normal 1861, probably around 13,000 CHF 😁
