OK thanks. What problems are there on the 1861?

None - it is a mature movement that has had all the tweaks already...

The problems I have encountered then must be down to poor build and quality control.

Sorry but your response is pathetic. Just because I'm not writing praise about the beloved Speedmaster Pro I'm beating a dead horse. I am merely stating my experience. Nothing more and nothing less.

Like I said, not in my experience. And I've probably had around 30 of them since the 1980s and this is not an isolated fault.

Just to be clear, are you claiming that you have owned 30 faulty Speedmasters? If so, you must be the most unlucky person on earth.

I'd say 6 have been faulty with most of the others displaying the erratic, stuttering central seconds hand and chrono minute recorder moving over before it should thus potentially giving a false reading of a time.

And you still bought 30 of them? You're a glutton for punishment.

Yes, I am it seems. I absolutely love the looks of the watch. I don't think it's coming over in my posts how much I wanted this latest Speedmaster to be right. I thought Omega may have upped their QC with the advent of the new bracelet with screws but it seems not unfortunately. I am very disappointed. Again!

You've exchanged your latest Speedmaster for the Planet Ocean 43.5 (a very nice watch btw). Do you think you will try another Speedmaster in the future, or have you given up? Just curious.

I probably will. I went in to my AD today to collect the new replacement Speedmaster but my head got the better of my heart this time.

Good luck with the new PO and if you get another Speedy let us know if it runs as it should.

The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over, and expecting a different result. Just sayin'...

BTW the stuttering seconds hand is easily eliminated through a simple adjustment, so did anyone ever offer to do that on the watches you have bought and I assume returned?

The accuracy of the flip of the minute recorder is really hardly ever an issue that I see, and mine is spot on (although I have to use slow motion video to actually see it)...

Keep in mind that with the beat rate of this watch being a bit lower than many other modern watches, just one tick of the escapement is enough to make it appear off.

I do find it difficult to believe that even a majority of the 30 watches claimed would have such faults - I've serviced hundreds of these and typically they perform quite well. I'm not sure what "hype" you have been referring to, but this is a mid-level workhorse chronograph we are talking about - this is not some high end showpiece, so this does seem to be in part a matter of expectations being a little too high.

Cheers, Al

I don't think that it was unreasonable to have though that QC may have improved, and to give the watch I like the look of so much another try, so not quite insane just yet. If the stuttering seconds hand is easy to eliminate why is this problem there in the first place? The minute recorder is spot on on your watch, but not on most examples. I'm sorry but my expectations of a £3520 GBP watch, not a small amount of money, are justifiably higher than the poor performance and problems I have encountered.

And my expectations are higher for a watch that is Flight Qualified by NASA for All Space Missions.

I've had my Speedmaster Professional for 25 years. It's been serviced three times and has never failed me. Until I got my Seamaster it was my daily wearer. While it's too bad the OP had problems with his, the tens of thousands of these out in the public and working just fine says Omega does a really good job designing and manufacturing these beautiful timepieces

I'm glad to hear this and this is why I keep buying them in the hope that I too will get a good one.

Or you are just a troll. I’d say likelihood is around 75%

Good to hear that you solved the problem. As for this:

(snipped) How the Speedmaster beat the Rolex in tests I will never know. Good marketing probably!!!
(Snipped).

It’s because the marketing materials Omega sent to NASA were printed on glossy paper :banghead:

ETA: You should at least read some materials/articles on the test done by NASA when selecting the watch for their space mission, before making silly comment like that.
