But there are also unknown unknowns and there are things we do not know we don't know.
Uh, yeah OK. 😕

BTW, Mr. McNamara told me that Desmond is in complete agreement with us👍
If I only could figure out what is the unknown which I know that I don't know.
Did I get that right?

You asked about this box:

I think this one was used for the De Luxe as it is a bit smaller than the Grande Luxe box and cost less as well. Ah, just noticed that this one doesn't really have a smooth top at all! I was fooled by the photography. Anyway, the one above is the one I was referring to.

100% agree with you that the smooth box with raised Omega was used for the Centenary as per this ad:

I'm just using the process of elimination here,

That picture was my box that I sold to another member here. It was for the Centenary. I also have another smooth version.

George, how do you know it was for a Centenary?

The person whom I originally purchased it from had over 20 boxes of same or slight variations and he had the inserts for them also but said this one came with a centenary he was keeping. The Grand Luxe ones I believe came in the bigger silver boxes. These boxes could have also house the deluxe all gold models or such but i believe were offered with the all gold higher model watches of that era.

I thought that the Centenary boxes were inscribed on the inside. Boxes were made in the US, UK and Switzerland depending on where the watch was originally sold. The same watch might have had different boxes.

According to the ad I posted above, it doesn't look like the silver box was optional with the Centenary, like it was for the Constellations.

Take care,

That certainly may well be be, but I have yet to find any concrete evidence that the Centenary came in anything but the smooth boxes. The information below though does hint towards that possibility.

Perhaps, though I don't see this in Doug Gravina's boxed set or the the AJTT illustration:

But, there is an outer white cardboard box that is labeled, Omega Centenary and the years.

I agree , this is an important fact. Although in the case of the Centenary, which came with a Silver box included, all of the boxes appear to have been made in Switzerland by the Jezler Company.

I agree, here is your ad again and another that says Magnificent presentation box (silver I presume). It is possible there were variations in the silver box (smooth vs patterned) depending on the bracelet or the size (2499 or 2500)

More Centenary Ads:

disclaimer: Some of these could have come from Gator, as I collected these over time.

I plead "not guilty". Mine came from a web search.

Um, sort of. 😜 Just trying my hand at NY Daily News style sensationalized titles.

Got a call from the head enabler today telling me that a 50's Omega box was just listed. Funny that we talked about this exact one only a day before.

Pretty sure it's one of the metal boxes used for Constellations since a similar one is pictured at the beginnin of the Constellation section of AJTT on page 361. No inserrt, but that's okay for the price it sold for.

Steve, I think this puts you back in the lead over Evan, Adam, Mike, and Kyle as far as quantity. You definitely have a wide margin in the $$$ department already, especially when you add direct purchases and recommendations/tips. 😲 Poor Norm got such a late start that I don't think he'll catch up for years (unless he tracks down a white gold Conquest Power Reserve in mint condition).
Interesting to see some old names from the past.
