A trainee started this week at my medical practice and I immediately noticed he was wearing a Hamilton. Watch chat ensued and he told me he had an Omega saphire sandwich Speedie at home.

We both arranged to wear our speedies today, for Tuesday, and also swapped them at the start of the day.

I only have the broad arrow 3594 as a Speedie and it was great to try on a newer Speedie for the day!

I must admit, I was struck by how legible the modern Speedie was compared to the broadarrow. Also definately prefer hesalite over saphire after wearing it for the day.

This has pretty much cemented my desire for a modern Speedie to add to the stable. I'm deliberating over sourcing a secondhand 3592 or just buying a new one outright.

I was thinking, if buying new, I could pick one up from my rolex AD, and this may not only get me a new watch but also move me up the waiting list for the hulk I'm currently on.....

    Anyways - some wrist shots!!

Looks good on you. One of the reasons I like the speedy pro is the black bezel. It gives some contrast. I had the 60th for a while and though it’s a great watch, I feel it would have looked a lot better with a black bezel (although obviously would not have been correct).

I’d get a new one with a 5year warranty personally. The used prices are not that much less these days that what you’d expect to pay with a discount for a new one.

Ah, yes I think you are right about the black bezel. Makes sense why it seemed to 'pop' more on the wrist.

Thanks for your advice on new vs second hand. Last time I haggled at an AD for a Speedie, I got them down to £3140 but wouldn't budge from there, so I left it. Grey is a bit cheaper, but I think if the AD offers the same price as before, I'll probably just take it!

I use to really like the 3594 after having seen these photos, I might take the 3594 off my favorite list on WatchRecon

They are both nice but very different. In retrospect I probably would have gone for a 'standard' Speedie, if I had just one, and not the 3594 variant.

I think the standard Speedie hasn't changed significantly for good reason. I appreciated this when I had it on for the whole day every time I looked at my wrist.

I think that still the 3594 is a really nice piece. I'm slightly biased though, that was my first speedy (and "nice" watch) ever.

But I also think that the vintage baton hand speedys can be as legible as the modern ones as well. I would go for a nice step dial speedy!

Both very nice, but if it's something that's easy to read then my vote goes to this one.
