·This Saturday I got my beloved Tissot chronograph back from service and the same day a few people on Facebook questioned its originality. The points made regarded the overall condition of the dial (which is spotless), the different fonts on second track and subdial (which I have refuted; this is on par for the course), the logo (which is a newer type) and the hands (which are different from others, for instance @marturx lovely specimen).
This is the dial in question:
Now, I would be very surprised if it was a redial, as everything is spot on when compared to similar specimens, but the possibility of a later service replacement could well be true. There isn't much data about vintage Tissot, and due to part of the movement having been replaced, I have no serial number and I can therefore not date it properly 🤦
The oldest watches I've seen with this Tissot logo are from 1969 and my own 1972 Seastar has it as well.
The stick hands are also a part of the conondrum, as they are markedly different from others I've seen, which are of the radium-filled wing type, or dauphine hands as Marturx': https://omegaforums.net/threads/tissot-chronograph-50ies-ref-174-cal-27ch-41h.34619/
Note that apart from the logo, mine is an exact copy of that one... Marturx' is a ref. 174, which I don't believe this one is, as there aren't any such marking and the case is a bit different.
Anyone out there sitting on a huge fount of knowledge? Please give a shout, as I'd love to solve this mystery.
