Dear OF, I hope you're all keeping safe and sound! It's fair to say my pouring over watches has increased since lock down, I am starting to go snow blind I stumbled across the below Seamaster and my intrigue spiked as I have been noticing more members with excellent examples of black dials but also the huge amount of redials out there in the wild. My suspicions on this one are I haven't seen many examples on here with Automatic Chronometer Officially Certified for this era - I think 1958. Also, I haven't found many examples with these indices/markers and the while almost looks like lume but I don't think it is. That said the font's look correct (I think) and the Swiss Made seems to align to the "S" of Swiss @ 29th minute and the "M" of Made at 31st minute. Not sure if the 59th minute and 01 are too close to the 12 marker? Date window/font looks clean I think. Pictures aren't the best so I can't tell if the dial looks glossy - I have requested better pictures. Any thoughts on the dial would be much appreciated to help me learn and spot redials v.s. genuine. Stay safe everyone, best wishes, Dave
Redial EDIT: I wanted to see if I could open the thread and answer in >10 seconds, hence the short reply... The stark, bold, white text as well as the placement of "SWISS MADE" is enough to make a swift judgement.
I like the challenge, we have to have these challenges to keep us entertained at the moment The stark, bold text was a definite red flag for me, to help my learning is the placement of "SWISS MADE" too low on the dial?
Wide spacing and proximity to the markers. FWIW I don't recall seeing these (14701?) as chronometers...
Thanks for the info - helps to keep learning Case back has it as 2867-4 - which is the date version of the 2976 which I already have, this way why it peaked my interest if it was all original it could have complemented my no date nicely. But that said it would have kept me from my Connie research which is next on my list...later this year hopefully.
Correct. But I'm not sure it is a 14701, the lugs on the 14700/01 have quite a pronounced chamfer which I don't see here
