Normally I post a pic of the bike pack around Christmas but with all this carbon and alu lately - I, as resident retro grouch, feel the need to put things right here.

This years steel is real post. 75 gears idling. There are plenty more bikes than these but they will have to wait until next years post.

In keeping with watch philosophy, I had one come in, so one must go out. Sold the Allez Expert for a new Specialized Allez Sprint:

Nice! Always good to see a cyclist rocking a bright bike. Way too many 'stealth' black looking things, I love a brighter bike.

Jesus, that looks awful. I hope you weren't in as bad condition as the bike, and good that you're recovered and back in the saddle. That poor Litespeed...

As a cyclist, that is mind-bending! You've really taken that n+1 rule seriously! 馃榾 Are they mostly for display / enjoyment, and you ride other bikes on the road, or do you regularly rotate these guys in and out? Seeing a Colnago in there, a Merckx - some lovely bikes!

@styggpyggeno1 ... we need to see some serious pics of that collection! Serious bike porn!
Steel is real... my 2006 custom steel Waterford RST 22 with Campi Centaur 10 Speed group. Retro modern.

Thanks!

On page two I confessed (and continued on most of this threads thirty pages...):

Thanks for pointing out the link, and again, superb collection (that is to cyclists what a box of Limited Edition Speedies would be elsewhere on this forum!). The Merckx Motorola is a lovely looking bike, both lines but also colour scheme works really well (which is not often the case for Pro teams!).
There is definitely something about steel. Of my road bikes I have one carbon, one steel, one titanium. I've never quite got myself to trust the carbon - it rides fine, but in the back of my mind is that the day I have a crash miles from anywhere and the frame snaps or shatters - what do I do? With steel or Ti worst case I can bend it back and more or less ride, but if my frame is scattered all across the road....
Of the others the Ti I ride most, but the steel looks the best - the tubes can be so slim that the lines of the bike look really beautiful. Of course it's the heaviest of the three, but an extra 0.5kg in frame weight is hardly worth complaining about when I weigh many times more than the bike does!
Lovely collection, and again thanks for taking the time to post those!

Very nice, sir! 馃槑

Yeppers...lots of retro around here...my only retro road bike pictured below...my 1989 Schwinn Waterford Paramount [with original 7400 series Dura-Ace components] which I purchased new while on military active duty. I had it restored [frame re-painted and re-decaled] at the Paramount factory [now Waterford Precision Cycles] in Waterford, Wisconsin a few years ago. I raced it on one occasion shortly after the restoration...in a Merckx class time trial...I didn't do so hot [no podium] but it was fun racing it. 馃憤

Love it!

I lived in Chicago for 25 years and rode lakefront trail almost daily. Some serious nostalgia looking at those pics.

Lot's of crashes, pedestrians with their heads up their you know what, tourists on segways, people bbq'ing in the middle of the path (south side), and miles of flat, flat, road. Moved to Boulder in August. The riding is just epic. Will never look back...

Moved to the North Shore from NW Jersey in 2001. Riding in Chicagoland is not for the faint hearted. I miss the rolling country roads and my dual suspension mountain bike misses the trails where we used to live. Its safer actually to ride the roads than the trails unless you hit em early. I now ride with lights even during the day due to drivers absorbed in their mobile devices. Beautiful pics.
