·ah, I see what you mean. can't tell you for sure without seeing it in person, but I "think" it is not. The effect that it does have is the classic "sandwich dial Lume" or recessed dial markers, which is a very vintage effect. I like it personally. That may be what you're seeing in the pics. It's basically based on the days where the lime was set on a whole different layer on the dial and then the dial proper was set on top of it. Other than that I think it's the same treatment.

·I actually do love the patinated lume but that's just me 😁
Totally respect that Ash; I just have a hard time resolving the notion that something fake/faux/forced sits well with watch collectors, a population notoriously known for obsessing over authenticity. I get the appreciation of the look, just not the appreciation of the forced look, which comes across to me as something of a put-on. Had it been a design element like the case or hands, I don't think it would bother me, but faux old lume is just...Am I making any sense?🤔

·I think it IS a design element - it's not just about trying to look older - 40-50 years ago this color lume didn't exist - now it does, and it looks really nice! Especially when paired with a leather strap...

This will likely make me unpopular, but I think people that don’t like the “aged” lume don’t like it because they think it makes their real patina look less special.
Maybe design element was a poor choice in terms. Imagine a model that was prone to pitting in the case, or rusting around the crown. How would you feel about that being reproduced? Hell, I get the whole appeal of tropic dials, but to recreate one just seems...deceptive. I don't know, I just don't like it. Obviously plenty do, which is why they made it.

·Side note - I've had people compliment my SM300 and say 'it looks like the new Omega' because of the color of the plots - I try to not get all WIS on them. To be honest if it's one more thing that means more people like mechanical watches ( as we await the Apple ) I'm fine with that ....

It is not that the new one make the old one less special, If anything I've seen more actual vintage 300 being sold since the new one came out. it's just a matter of taste and personal choice.
I think the 57 is stellar, and I actually think the 300 is beautiful, but when I went to get one I just didn't like it on my wrist. Not just the patina, which did not appeal that much, but the balance of the dial seems a little off (to me) the markers are too long for the size of the dial and create a strange star effect. But that's me, and it may change. The 57 though looks amazing.
It is still a little swatch group or Disney to just recreate with make up an effect. I much rather they issued the watches as new, as they where when first issued, than design a watch to look like we are "used" to seeing it 40 years later. I don't have a vintage 300, nor a 57, so I Don't care about my watches loosing value, I just sometimes dislike gimmiks. Then again i do have pre washed jeans and leather shoes that look worn new so who's to judge right?
