I really like the small seconds version, except I wish it (i) was 40mm instead of 38mm, (ii) had a plain sapphire crystal on the back, and (ii) was ~$1500 cheaper. $6500 for a time only Omega in steel on a leather strap is a lot. For comparison, the Railmaster on leather is $4900, and the new Seamaster 300 on rubber is $4750.

I really like both of them, what's the chances of actually getting one.

It depends where you live I think. If in your country you have more OB or AD then you have a good chance to get one especially if you put down some deposit. OB in small market countries has less chance to order limited editions so it is hard to get one.

When the re-editions cost as much as some of the original vintage pieces...I tend to tune out. But I am sure it will sell.

They don’t look too bad albeit they’re not the original. I’m thinking about getting one on the right.

The more I think about it, the more likely I am to just find a vintage piece. The display case back seems over the top and I think I'd prefer a hippocampus.

Have yet to come across a single positive comment concerning the caseback... Impressive in it's own right, but not really something a major brand ought to strive for!

The long center seconds hand added serious cost to the watch so they opted for the shorter, ambutated looking one. Generally the hand length on the center seconds version are way off IMO.

Just saw a video of it running, seems like it has the long hand IRL... And a nifty engraved logo in the center of the crystal 😀

This is a really nice watch, but it's so overpriced, even getting it at a 30 % discount is still a lot.

I’d take the sub seconds, but the watch would benefit from just having less verbiage as other have said. Clean the case back too.

Knowing what the vintage versions of these look like I think it changes how I perceive the watches and other re-issues for that matter.

Do members feel these watches would stand on their own, without any back story, in today's watch market?

I read this while having morning and it made my day. Definitely a set of pieces that is going the right direction. It's hard to get one but if I can i won't hesitate.

I like it, but jeez at that price, no way, not ever.

That was my point of loss of interest.

That dial is nice, that crown looks ok, 38mm is great, what's it cost ....WTF next thread.

My take is that it is a nice retro design, is a bit too big for what it is, has an awful and clumsy looking case back and the pricing is just ludicrous.

Actually, at a much HIGHER cost. I agree. That's what attracted me to the Railmaster LE: ALL the looks of an original patinated vintage Railmaster but with Sapphire glass and a modern, a-magnetic movement for less of the cost of a proper vintage model and with much less hassle as far as worrying about whether everything is genuine, getting an archive extract, and at at about 1/2 the cost!

The originals of this style had a plain caseback, the Hippocampus came later.

RE: the case-back...

This watch is the "Mullet of Horology" as in "Business in the front, and Party in the back".

You just can't take it as a serious elegant watch when they did that to the sapphire case-back. Have Patek, ALS, and VC ever done that? Sad.

Agreed!
