Unless I missed it, no one really considered a Seamaster anniversary re-issue? At first glance these look stunning - especially the sub seconds. The dial, case, hands, crown, hour markers all look spot on to me. A lovely looking watch, perfect for a daily wearer. The only thing that isn't quite right is the thickness at 11mm, but that apart, it's a winner.

I’ll be cheeky and repost what I wrote in the main Baselworld thread...

Anyone else think there’s too much going on on the dial of the one on the left? Because of the seconds sub-dial they’ve had to jam all the text in the top half which makes it look to busy. The centre seconds is much nicer

I prefer the one on the left. Elegant.

They both look like poor redials of the original thing, but I am happy the size is sensible. Funny how one of the pictures in the link show the center seconds version with a longer seconds hand?

EDIT: That caseback is terrible. Whoever thought of adding a speedboat and an aeroplane?! ::facepalm2::::facepalm2::

The last thing either of these dials is is busy. It's as simple as you can get! That said I prefer the model on the right, missing 6 looks off to me.

Do you need to be reminded that your dress watch is a coaxial master chronometer every time you look at it?

If the hands of the right one were on the one with the small seconds that would be a killer watch!

To be fair, the originals would have had "Automatic" and "Chronometre" instead of "Co-Axial" and "Master Chronometer"... Not that big a difference.

Fair enough, but i suppose it’s the text placement I don’t like. It seems more balanced on the centre seconds

    Little bit pricey
Would have preferred a SS engraved caseback

Overall nice pieces as I have been known to like a non date watch

It's not about needing to be reminded. It's what is traditionally done with watches. It's to mark what is inside just like almost every other watch in the world. Like the other person said, if this was 1980 it would just say Automatic.

Yep, agree totally. I am unsure if there ever even was a sub-seconds chronometre with the Seamaster name on the dial...

Why do so many of the new watches Omega make cost considerably more than the Speedmaster professional?

It's their most iconic watch and the one that's probably helped keep them alive as a company yet every single new watch they make and even the incredibly basic dress watches all cost more than the Speedmaster.

I kind of either want to see some new watches costing £2000-£3000 or feel like the Speedy should be priced a lot higher than it is.

I just can't help but see anything new they make and think "oh that's really nice, I like that design a lot" then see that it costs like £4500 minimum and wonder why on earth I'd choose it over a Speedmaster.

If you offer to pay £6000 for a Speedmaster Pro I'm sure they'd let you!

I think a lot of it is down to the movement, and historic cost. All the new watches have the modern, high spec METAS, master-coaxial calibres and as Omega is trying to position itself as an alternative to Rolex, the costs reflect this.

The Speedmaster uses an old calibre, manual wind which isn't METAS or chronometer certified. Plus, the historic price of the Speedmaster was even lower than it is now (even accounting for inflation). There's only so much Omega can increase the price above inflation, with no improvements to the watch (save for the jazzy box!).

Wow - I didn't notice that. Interesting choice indeed!. Although I think these are generally very well done, I wouldn't buy one as the few dress watches I have are vintage. However, that is not a good design choice.

A little more discussion on this watch here, worth noting there will also be a platinum edition of 70, and the two models will be limited to 1948

They look really nice, but I agree about the caseback. That is too bad as I feel it takes away from their elegance.
