No this isn’t a whinge about’em,
I mostly just Ignore them, but every now and the one will catch my eye and amuse me either because it leave the door open with a proposition, to which one can come up with an amusing metal dismissal or is so poorly compiled that you just have to laugh.

Just now, an ad stated:
“Avoid the mistake 97% of guitar players make”
To which my immediate thought was:
“Yeah you should’ve never picked the fucken thing up in the first place!”

And another one
I see regularly is one for some mob who want to buy Rolex’s, it has a pic of an Invicta in the ad, with the logo photoshopped out.
Now if they don’t know the difference between the brands, it makes me wanna sell ‘em some shitty Invictas as Rolexes at Rolex prices! No doubt they get all sorts of chancers tying to sell them all manner of fakes, but to leave the door open to have dickheads wasting even more time on trying to sell them Invictas amuses me.

So do tell of any banner ads that give you amusement

Many (most?) people here pay for a subscription that eliminates those annoying banner ads......well worth the few dollars a month to surf in comfort.

Unfortunate the quality isn’t as good as it could be right now as the various world economies teetering on the verge of recession has led to major companies drastically cutting back on their ad spend. As a result it’s lower end stuff and we get paid drastically less, at the moment we’re getting absolutely killed and I’m about to sell my submariner to keep the site running.

Our subscribers at the moment are super valuable to us as a result so thanks to everyone that does.

Like is said they don’t bother me as I mostly just ignore them, I once even noticed something I wanted, I’d been looking for one and bought it.
And before anyone starts banging on about spyware and bloody algorithms…… No I hadn’t been looking for it online, I had only physically searched the local bricks and mortar shops.
So unless the spyware was actually tailing me…..

Here’s a suggestion, a forum that I’m an administrator of, has an eBay widget that displays on the toolbar of the reply or compose page, when this is clicked to link an eBay listing and then when the subsequent clicks on that link are viewed, eBay pays the forum a small amount for the link, very small is my understanding but with the amount of eBay links on here it should add up to something.
It might be worthwhile.

Yea we have that and Amazon but they pay drastically less than ads do as they’ve limited the terms of what they pay on quite considerably over the years

Just tried to upgrade to tier 2 to lend a helping hand but will lose what I have already paid in tier 1. Will upgrade when renewing. Can’t have you selling your Sub to keep us retrobates happy😁

Appreciate that mate, yea there’s no good system really for the upgrade as calculating the differences is a bit more complex than the software currently permits.

Yeah I was asking about that least year and they said it was in the works with the "upcoming forum upgrade" ... I'm hoping!

Also, @dsio maybe regular DONATION links? Or drives? Merch sales? I think the base is willing to help so you don't have to sell watches to fund this place.

Well that sucks. I hate to hear it. I'll definitely go tier 2 next time but can't offer much financially right now. I'm sure you get lots of people wanting to "cook in your kitchen" but if you need help with any type of testing or automated testing on the new software I'd be happy to try and help out.

How many subscribers does the site need to make it viable and roughly how many subscribers do you have?
Maybe we (me)can make more of an effort to get a subscription. It's just pure laziness on my part and I am sure many of us appreciate this community enough to press a few buttons, spend a few dollars and help out.

I figure it like this...where else can I learn as much as I do when browsing this site for the grand total of 55 cents per day? Hands down, no question, worth it! A huge thank you to those keeping this platform up and running for the benefit of the community.

@dsio …..seems to me its time to take a page out of National Public Radio / PBS and have a PLEDGE DRIVE. How many of us are enjoying this site? And you have to sell watches? Not acceptable.

Just submitted my long overdue subscription. This site and it's members have been worth multiples of the annual subscription price.

I loath that pledge drive. I decided if I ever win the lottery I’m going to fully fund NPR to get rid of it. But yes, something needs to be done here.
