Would it difficult to find a replacement back for a watch such as this? Would that be considered sacrilege to do so?

It would probably take some hunting and not really worth the effort for a Geneve, IMO. That type of thing doesn’t bother me, it’s part of the history.

If shallow, engravings can be polished out or laser welded and refinished if necessary. But again, probably not worth it for a watch like this.

Thanks, Dan! It is going cheap at the moment. I may jump in it if I can wrap my head around a Funeral Home of the month award watch 😀

When I first started working for the Computer retailer in 1982 Bird & Son was one of my customers. They had a building next to the oil refinery and you could see the name from the freeway. This in Northern California. Like the links state, they made roofing shingles.

The company was hit hard by the Asbestos scare. I thought they completely failed. So the history was interesting. Sadly they were seen as deep pockets for lawsuits and extra retirement income.

Interesting enough I got some sample shingles and used them on the dog house. My dog Snoopy was long gone by then. But the dog Murray used it. Murray was named for the character Murray Burns in "A thousand Clowns." who would shout his opinions out of his apartment window. We did the play when I was in the 7th Grade (US) called Junior High.

Interesting watch. I would not mind it, but have other priorities.

Omega still has replacement case backs for this, so if you really want to swap it out, a watchmaker with an Omega parts account can do this for you - along with a service that the watch would likely need.

Thanks, Archer! Good info to know. I passed on the watch, but there may be another that pops up in the future. Have a great weekend!
