Authenticity Check

Hey everyone, recently just purchased my first Omega. Did a bit of my own research and decided to pull the trigger on a watch that I liked as the ebay listing was gaining traction, but I would appreciate any feedback from the more experienced collectors on this purchase.

I've attached the original listing as well as a link including photos and video of the movement (phone video makes hour markers on the watch look odd, pictures do more justice).

Thanks for the input

Genuine.

Seems in decent shape as well.

Crown looks incorrect but that’s often the case.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase! I second the comment regarding the crown. Come to think of it, it was @Davidt that pointed me in the right direction for the crown of my 165.002 (similar case reference to your 166.037 but the non-date version). Here's a link to the post where they showed me the proper crown if you're interested in finding one for your watch. Obviously, you would just need on in gold. Again, congrats!

Thank you for the welcome! I will definitely look into the crown too.

Case and caseback has been polished, but not excessively so. Note that there seems to be drag marks on the inner caseback and corresponding wear on the rotor, often meaning that the rotor post is worn. Also, there is no caseback gasket. Probably removed to old age prior to preparing the watch for sale and then not replaced due to not being bothered about moisture ingress on a watch someone else was going to own in a short while 🙄

I believe those two references have different crowns. You can see what the original looks like here: https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/watch-omega-seamaster-omega-st-166-0037
So from my novice perspective, your crown has the right number of teeth. I'm actually not sure what's wrong with your crown except for that the color seems a bit off, and that the feet of the Ω are wrong.

The right one might be here, but I'm not 100% sure: http://cgi.julesborel.com/cgi-bin/matcgi2?ref=OME_CS^166.0037

edit: actually that link may not be that helpful, but there is this one on ebay at the moment that MIGHT be correct. You might wait for someone more experienced than myself to verify, though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334500256950?hash=item4de1c4dcb6:g:3FIAAOSwCRdhfAV4
