Auction conundrum: how high would you go?

I had a similar “hidden Rolex” experience last Autumn. Would people here have gone after this lot ? Just listed as a box of old watches... only this photo online.

Honestly when I see something like this I can't help but think that the auction house "planted" the watch knowing it's a fake. They don't say there's a Rolex in there, but they let you see it from a far knowing everyone will aknowledge it and hope that two suckers fight over it... Winwin for them

I think when it’s a Rolex that’s lurking then that’s almost always going to be the case. It surprises me that a business would do something sneaky, but what auction house doesn’t know Rolex ? It could be different if the lurker was something more obscure, and I’ve seen hidden Seiko divers quite a few times but they always tend to get noticed.

And the Rolex in the box, I had a Forum friend take a look and here’s what it was. Seems nobody was taken in which I found quite surprising... the lot sold for £25.00.
