Would you go for this 18k Movado M90?

Hi Movado experts

I'm offered this M90 in a solid gold case. The case looks reasonably sharp and the dial has some patina, but fairly evenly spread. The movement has just recently been serviced by a watchmaker that I also personally know. The asking price is CHF 2800, which I thought was fair when I thought it was a 34mm watch, but it turns out to be 32mm in size.

I like the watch and its condition, but wouldn't want to buy it if I'd risk making a major loss if I ended up finding it too small and wanted to pass it along.

So my question: Is it still an OK price for this 32mm watch or overpriced?

For me, probably purely on size and patina, it would be a pass - and wait for a better look.

I love it. I would love it more if it was 34mm. I’m very picky re: condition in gold dresss Chronographs but this patina it quite pleasant to look at. Serviced too. Crystal needs a good polish.

I think this would be a hard watch to sell, for the reasons that @Larry S mentioned. Not a lot of buyers.

I would contemplate the ‘personal wrist size’ factor, and not get too hung up on absolutes (like watch size).

For example : my wrists look great wearing a DeepSea, down to a 35mm 40s dress watch.

My lady’s wrists looks great wearing a regular Speedmaster (which is bordeline too big) down to small…a 35mm watch on her wrist relatively looks like a 42mm watch on mine.

So what about your wrist?

It would be a much easier decision if you could try it on though…and if you do fall out of love, well most blokes will probably turn their noses at this size…built like thugs we are 😀

Yeah, this is my concern. I'm already sitting on a gold watch that nobody wants even though I'd sell at a loss 🤦.

Not sure why I added "major", but anything beyond 200 would hurt I guess.

Many thanks Mark for taking the time to compile the comparables. The first two ones are in poorer state. The most representative one is probably the one on Gazette Drouot. Would be interesting to know how much in went for.
To compare apples with apples I should probably look at the price without the service cost which was CHF800 so the watch alone would be CHF 2000.

CHF 2000 is on the high side.

So CHF 800 is 2 decent lunches with the mrs for you 😁

Hi everyone

So I got the chance to see it and try it on. The watch looked great actually, the patina less visible in real life than on the digital images, which is so often the case. But I decided not to take it for the size. Even the dealer said I wouldn't be able to recoup the money if I decided to sell it on.
