Hello all,

First post on here or any forum actually. Hope you’re all doing well.

Just bought my first vintage Omega, I have a few modern ones.

It is a 168.004 with an arabic dial in rolled gold. I can’t find another one online. The guy I bought if off neglected to mention there were papers and matching certificate included. The strap is of course a replacement but the buckle looks to be original. Papers are dated London, 1967

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on this dial. Thanks in advance.

Looks nice at first glance. Did you have any particular questions about it? What do you mean by rolled gold? Do you mean gold-capped? A photo from the back would clarify that.

Hello, it is described as rolled gold on the papers but this would have been written in by the AD so maybe using different terminology etc. Sorry no particular questions about it. Thanks

Welcome, and congratulations! Are you certain that this is a 168.004? Omega enthusiast database shows what seems to be an identical watch to yours, but calls it a 168.010. Not that it matters too much, but that would explain why you couldn't find another one online.

Hello, thanks for your reply. This is amazing thank you, the warranty papers marked it as 168.004 so this was what I was going off.

That is what we generally call gold-capped. It is a thick layer of gold bonded to a stainless base. You can clearly see this if you look at the backs of the lugs. These thick gold layers hold up much better than gold-plated or gold-filled cases. So as long as you are reasonably careful with it, the watch should hold up well.

I may be wrong about this, but in jewelry, "rolled gold" is often synonymous with "gold filled" which is totally different than gold-capped in the context of Omega watch cases. Much thinner gold layer and not on a stainless base.
