Before and after, just back from my WM this afternoon.

New balance wheel, staff etc, new winding stem and a brand new old stock Roamer crown to replace the 'what the heck is that' that it arrived with also a new glass.

This cost far more than it's worth but the end result is acceptable.

Obviously it will need a strap change rather than this temporary nylon one.

After

Always had a very soft spot for Roamer (and Oris) - after my early pre-addiction forays on eBay.

Always had a very soft spot for Roamer (and Oris) - after my early pre-addiction forays on eBay.

They are impeccably built, no bought in pattern parts unlike 90% of other Swiss brands though there were a couple of other manufacturers calibres used but these were mostly refinished and modded by Roamer as well and only used as stopgap measures.
I don't know what possessed me to buy this one other than the economics of the Vanguard name which seems to hold magical properties for some watch collectors who buy these, pay big money and skip the far better watches and movements that Roamer made just a mere handful of years earlier. Its a bit like buying a Vintage Mini or Escort and paying huge money where at the same time you can pick up a Roller for peanuts, collecting is a weird weird world.
This particular movement is a cheapened out version of earlier calibres not possessing hacking at all unlike a much nicer stainless watch I got recently fixed and serviced, hugely better, looks identical to the vanguards but is badged as an Elegant.

I am all watched out today just bought a magnificent Russian Military watch 1/2 an hour ago off the local auction site, cost me a lot but will knock the socks off for most military collectors most desired watches.

Watch this space tomorrow or later in the week.

Just arrived today, Russian naval aviators single pusher chronograph. Will run it for a week to see if it's up to snuff accuracy wise, if not it's off to my WM for a service as I intend wearing this relatively frequently.

Bought this weird and awesome watch. Its still in transit, but I think it looks lovely.
That is a supercool watch! Never heard of the brand but the design and finish looks as I high quality. Is that a gold medallion in the back?

Congrats

Unexpectedly I received a bequest from a dearly departed friend and I seriously considered purchasing this piece in memory but given I am cutting back I have held off but it may yet happen 🤔

I think I recall (I may be wrong) that @Alpha sold another Alpina in the not too distant past.

Perhaps you guys could share it …… ?

Recently purchased this 2577-10 SC on Fleabay with Cal. 354. This one checks so many boxes for me, and I'll never let it go!
Black Waffle, Beefy Lugs, Bumper 1950s, 100% Original.
Simply gorgeous! A fine catch from the ‘bay. Congratulations

Yema Superman worldtime. I got lured in by the winter sales and was looking for a GMT anyways😉.
With the 40% discount on retail I think this offers real value for money, 300m water resistant, in house calibre and excellent finish, delivered 2 days after ordered within Europe. It's a big watch at 41mm it it wears well on the wrist.

This front loader arrived from Japan. A few scratches and a minor gouge but otherwise an exemplary and handsome 1969 beater (on the days I don’t want to risk my C cased Connie) 😀
