Keeping up my trend of waiting ages after an arrival to actually purchase it, here's my latest: an Enicar Sherpa Graph Mk. III. This one took some patience to find, but was well worth the wait
Waltham model 1899 pocket watch. Grade 620, circa 1902. I was given this pocket watch last year from the owner of the local mom & pop jewelry shop. The watch was hardly working and also had irreparably damaged hands. The store owner said it would have cost more to fix it than the value of the watch. Many moons later, with a bundle of tlc, a new mainspring, new crystal and new hands, the watch is now working very well in all positions and looks terrific.
Drove my wife insane going to every possible watch store in Vienna and Budapest earlier this month in search of a Tudor GMT to no avail. Broke down and got one online this week. Rock solid.
Here are my most recent finds; the Accutron needs a service / new movement, I’ll probably clean the Consul up as best as I can and offer it to my daughter, plus I’m really chuffed with the DS . Considering how old they are they’re in reasonable nick and are keeping good time. It’s nice to add a 12, 3, 6, 9 watch to my small collection, and all up these set me back about $AU 50
Thanks I did give it 15 minutes with Polywatch and it brought the crystal up a bit, but it's so scuffed that I think I'll get it swapped. The movement feels so stiff that I daren't wear it until it's gone to Simon Freese
IMO 18k gold is 18 carat solid gold material whereas 18k electroplated gold has gold plating on steel or on other material. Electroplated gold normally wears down with time and use.
I have wondered what it is - there's no real identifying maker's mark (unlike that jammy sod, @Darobs and his car boot find), though it does have some kind of scratched on numerals that are akin to a service mark on a watch - haven't seen that before.
I broke down and bought a Tudor GMT on Friday, got it on Saturday....it has not left my wrist....great watch! My wife does not know....yet
I only hope it’s still mine when I get home. [/QUOTE] Looks like it is in good hands now. You don't need to worry you Darlingboy
