Buzz and Mike. Mike is the new arrival. A joint 20th wedding anniversary present from my wife, who has well and truly caught the bug. She certainly gave the sales guy at Watchfinder in Mayfair a run for his money... but that could be down to the gin and the rebellious theatrical presentation we saw earlier that day. Alexander Hamilton - you have a lot to answer for. I'm now deciding which one will be on my wrist when I see First Man at the IMAX on the 20th... I think it's got to be Buzz on my Kizzi strap. But Mike is soooooooooo nice. (Well, thats what she said).
Two-for-two straight trade locally. A really fun and unusual transaction. Have a cup of coffee and go home with the other guy's watches.
A Rolex 214270 full-set and a nice 1970s Glycine Airman. I offered to throw in some cash, but the seller turned it down and said he was happy to do a straight trade. He liked my watches and wasn't particularly concerned about the monetary aspect.
Bought at an antiques fair this morning - in desperate need of a nice strap but one more UG for the collection! Pictured here with our shop cat Rusty
For a while i was looking for a donor watch for my good old Seiko that ive been wearing the past 20 years. Today i was passing by a flea-market and just thought i would check it out. And what do i see, a good looking Seiko 5 Automatic with exact same caliber 7009-876A. Aaaand it still has its perfect original bracelet! i dont even remeber when i lost my one... Only one thing, somehow i like this one so much i am not sure i want to take it apart as a donor... i guess i keep it the way it is for now Here, next to my old one
Another "drawer find". This one was bought by a dealer three years ago from a house clearance. She "doesn't really do watches" so, on clearing out her old stock, put it into a local auction where I bought it yesterday. Case and dial are damn near perfect. The movement's dry but as clean as a whistle. The crown was missing altogether which is most likely what caused the watch to be saved in such great condition. I was pretty sure I'd have one to suit but it turns out I don't. So, if anyone has one please let me know - I've already posted a WTB. Failing that, she'll have to have a generic crown to suit ... it's just she's so good she deserves an original Smiths crown. I have thousands of bits that could be worth a trade or will happily pay in beers or cash.
I got a Bulova 666 / and a Jaeger LeCoultre in ugly 1970 style but a rose by any other name, and these 2 are why I'll never get that Speedmaster pro motm
I took a risk on this well-worn ref 5513 with pre-Comex dial from 1978, with terrible photos and a badly scratched crystal. It's pretty filthy inside and out, and seems like an honest well-used estate piece, so I gambled on the chance that it will clean up ok. It came with a 78360 bracelet instead of a 93150, but I don't really mind.
Thank's for the info. I see what you mean and I do have also found some marks in the gap @6 that indicate that the bezel was removed some point in time. Of course the seller doesn't know anything and insists on it beeing unworn . At the meantime it is at my watchmaker's and a quick check suggests that everything else is in good shape. So it will stay nevertheless - the condition is still very good I think and it will be worn by me anyhow. What actually bugs me more is that the sides of the hands are not well polished - but this seems to be a "feature" of that eras SMPs.
