OK so I have officially become hooked, but only on the soft stuff, in todays post arrived a nice (but I do realise it's probably one of the least collectable Omega's based on sales prices) 1972 Geneve MD 136.0049, purchased in 1975 (comes with the original written guarantee booklet & instructions) dial is original and in brilliant condition as far as I can tell, minor edge wear to the case, but only hand polished, etched marked crystal is nice and clean, the back is great & the right one for the watch, movement looks nice, the only issue is the crown (non-original) is very stiff to wind, but it was always going to go in for a service, so expect it to get sorted then. I know compared to some of the item being bought on here this isn't going to raise any eyebrows, except perhaps people wondering why did he buy that! 馃榾 But this was my way of easing into the whole thing with as little initial investment as possible and having a nice watch to wear. Vendor set the time before posting yesterday and it's still spot on, so that bodes well. Only downside with this watch is the silly 'pump action' date change, but TBH, I'll probably never set it anyway! So in the week since I became a member I've doubled my Omega watch collection馃榿

Thanks - just saw it whilst searching for that 1956 Seamaster I decided to start my collecting with and thought I wouldn't mind wearing that so bought it. 馃槵

Bought today: 168.010 stainless steel Constellation with rose gold furniture. Case has been polished in the past. Dial is good (with some minor flaws) and shows a champagne colour. Attractive looking watch. Wearing it now to check timekeeping.

Guess I'm going to send the Elgin back.
Its even more beautiful in the flesh than in the pictures and that Admiral band fits perfectly and is the most comfortable band I've encountered. These have a convex curve to the inner surface that exactly fits into the curve of the flesh of the wrist. no wiggle at all and no line of contact on the skin.
The case lays in the hollow of the wrist like it was molded to it.

The watch just doesn't run as advertised. The seller has offered a full refund so back it goes.
If the back cover plate were of a type I could remove with the tools I have I'd examine the movement first and if nothing is worn out or broken I'd try to get it going, but It looks like this case back would require a tool with case vice and lever arrangement.
I haven't found any information on these at all to help make a decision on whether its worth putting money into for a professional repair.

PS
I tried my de Magnetizer on it with no result.

This is so friggin cute!

A 1934 Rebburg (Aegler) powered Unicorn in a Handley case for the Australian market. I seem to be a magnet for these Deco Rolex sub brands of late. The numerals have been repainted (by a 6 year old with a sharpie) but it's nothing that can't be undone. Movement's a little belter and doze lugz! Dat crystal!!!

Also bought yesterday is the book you see as a backdrop: "Watches" by Clutton and the late, great George Daniels. I am sad enough that this will be my Sunday reading .... Or at least I'll look at the pictures, of which there are many!

Here鈥檚 a watch type I normally wouldn鈥檛 even think about buying, but it was so beautiful and it had such an authentic-looking vintage style in the pre-release photos, that I had to try it out.

The quartz movement (Seiko VK63), means it鈥檚 amazingly affordable, so at the very least, a very cool beater...

It just came today, and it certainly did NOT disappoint in any single aspect (but I already knew it was meca-quartz 馃榿):

And the charcoal/charcoal version is amazing too.

Outside in natural but overcast light.

Inside light through window

Gray/putty colored strap they include with a bracelet.

Top notch execution and at 38mm.

I just picked this one up today. I went to my watchmaker to drop of my Ed White for service, as it has been 5 years since last service. My watchmaker is in a building with other watchmakers so I normally browse around. Last time I was browsing I found a 1171/1 bracelet for $50 (no end links). Same guy has this one in the case, and frankly the same old stuff has been there for months. But I see this, as I notice the bracelet. I take a closer look and I see screws in the links and then the trap Omega logo on clasp. I am not familiar with this watch model, but I made an offer and he accepted.

I have no idea on the value, but the watch looks cool and the movement was legit (ie not a knock off quartz replacement).

Seiko 62 MAS reinterpretation - the SBDC051 - Japanese Domestic Market. Domed Sapphire Crystal - super-smooth bezel, dia-shield protective coating, beautiful polishing - 6R15 movement - Seiko upped their game on this watch. Now, it is hard to decide which watch to wear - my Sinn 104 or the new Seiko. The only downside is the strap - very comfortable but a dusk magnet. I have ordered an Uncle Seiko Waffle strap to replace the Seiko strap. Purchased it from Gnomon in Singapore. Three-days shipment via DHL. I asked GNOMON to photograph and check the watch for alignment issues - the gladly did - and sent me a photo within several hours of my request.

Walking past a closing down sale at a jewellers in Llandudno , my wife stopped to look at the offers . So thought I would look at the Seikos in the window & spotted this at 30% off . So about 3 minutes later it was mine , & boy what a looker it is and super comfy too & just love the dial . Just confirms that Seiko don't half pack a punch in the VFM stakes ,

Two top draw watches there
Thank you. I鈥檓 very aware of how lucky I am. 馃榾 After years of being a Rolex aficionado I鈥檓 enjoying a renewed love affair with Omega. I have a hankering for a Seamaster Chronograph now. This place is going to ruin me!

The gentleman who sold me my Snoopy a few years ago pops up from time to time in my text messages, with watches I鈥檝e mentioned being on my wish list.

Got the text on Friday and had this Saturday AM.

To help fund this I gave up my extra Planet Ocean 2500 (which was redundant since I have POLMLE), my Tudor Black Bay Red (as this fills my no date slot), and an older Speedmaster Date that looked small in my wide wrist, and a little cash.

PS: the bezel is being used to time my parking time limit.
