I just purchased a (hopefully working) Roamer Vanguard. I will post pictures and ask opinions when it arrives, if that's okay?...
I appreciate this is "arrivals", but I got excited

Will update with less catastrophic pics when they have arrived but.... less than 200 Eur for all three:

38mm SS Skindiver with glossy black dial and cool indices (White spot on crystal). Note the fresh Rubber strap... 馃榿

35mm SS Tissot Antimagnetique

36mm SS Atlantic V盲rldsm盲starur
Now in my hands... Better than expected 馃榾
The Tissot needs a service and new plexi though

A Lemania arrived in the post office box this morning and has been ticking merrily all day. Had scarcely heard of the name and didn't know squat about the brand before joining the Forum. Due to the evil influence of Northernman and some others on the Forum I became intrigued with Lemania and thought to add "an example or three" to the menagerie over time. This watch was was located in Texas, not a fertile field for Lemania brand watches.

This seems a little chunk for a 35mm watch, heavy for its dimensions. Gives an impression of quality though it's been heavily used over the years. The dial is quite nice, a little creamier looking than the light on my firearms work bench shows. Markers and applied logo are in a pleasing rose gold and the aged lume plots give a pleasing effect. The stainless steel case shows the wear of years of use.

We'll try it on a pigskin strap.

A search of Google Images found a 1954 ad displaying a Lemania with a similar dial.

While I didn't scrutinize all the Lemania ads pulled up in Google Images I didn't notice any English language ads. Did the Lemania watches make a retail appearance in the U. S. or other English speaking countries?

Would be grateful for any information a Lemania aficianado would share.

Hi.
The following is from the 1956 UK catalog.
Prices included. Ref 280A. A stands for Stainless (Acier).
Cheers 馃憤

BTW: Sweep or sub seconds were options, as was dial variants.
Note name of UK distributor stamped on last image.
They were also the Audemars Piguet importer at the time.

Nice catch!

Is that a soft travel case?
I found a very similar padded zippered case I figure was meant for high dollar sun glasses at the Goodwill while looking through their donated watches.
Works perfect for my Orient. I added a bit of thin foam wrap to keep it from bouncing around. Nice black fabric exterior.

Thank you Northernman for chiming in on the new Lemania. I was hoping you would. I'm grateful for the information. The Lemania factory is lovely in the photograph from the 1956 Lemania UK catalog.

Information like that really "floats my boat!"

I bought this Hema chronograph today at a very clean, well set up antique shop owned by an older, well dressed and well spoken gentleman and his wife. He had two full displays full of vintage and other watches. He said the vendor who owns the watches checks each watch for functionality and has the ones who need it serviced. I know some of you will find me too trusting and foolish, but I believed him. It was priced at $295 U.S., but after some haggling got out the door for just under $218, tax included. As a complete NOOB, I am interested in everyone's opinions and thoughts on value. I am in hopes that iI didn't get taken. The case is not SS, only the back, but from the brushing still remaining on the case, I don't believe it has ever been polished. What do you all think??!

I believe any time you can buy a working chronograph -with this kind of visual appeal- for less than the cost of a service, you've done well. Your instinct and negotiation prowess seems spot on to me. Wear and enjoy!

I believe your tan pigskin strap choice will compliment the dial and its patina nicely. Please post a picture of the watch- dial up- on the new strap and taken in natural light. I think the watch would really visually "come alive".

You read my mind Northernman. I was wondering what the building housed if it still existed and thought I'd have to find it online. Thanks much for the photos and the read.

Thanks for your compliments Flatfoot. Here's a link from Saturday's WRUW showing Lemania in the shade of a small pecan tree in the heat. I wore it all weekend and enjoyed it greatly, both around the house on Saturday and with a blazer and tie to church and then a 90th birthday party for a friend of my parents.
