‘65 Explorer 1016 arriving tomorrow (10/27)

And something new...

Oak & Oscar Jackson Flyback column wheel chronograph arriving sometime this coming winter

Very nice. I just can't get away from the Oyster case. I didn't want a Rolex but those 1016 are so nice. I was looking at the Oak and Oscar just today. I think we may have the same taste in watches.

That pocket watch is impressive. I agree about the dial. And it has a fusee too...!?! Man, how cool is that. do you have an idea of when it might have been made?
1873 going by the hallmarks.

Something a little different....."Black, Starr & Frost" 8-Day Pocket Watch. Huge 78mm case. It weighs over 14oz (almost a pound!)
Omega Goliath 8-D movement. Approx 1896. Ticking away(loudly) as I sit here at +20secs/day as it came out of the box.

I didn't know much about Black Starr & Frost so I did some research and found that back in the day BS&F was equivalent to Cartier and Tiffany in the jewelry world. They are america's oldest watch maker and the first retailer on 5th Avenue in New York. The story goes that at the time Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, Mary Todd Lincoln (his wife) owed BS&F 11 Million Dollars (in today's money) for jewelry and other goodies. Talk about an expensive wife.

Oh yeah, the best part....paid $49 from an estate sale.👍

Here at the Home For Wayward Watches we had another UAA (unanticipated accidental acquisition) this past weekend while at the San Angelo, Texas gun show.

While walking the aisles I came across some 15 to 40 year old junk quartz watches with a few older Timex, Gruen, and Mido watches thrown in. Oh, and one Hamilton. All were in a flat glass-topped display case, along with a bunch of small knick-knack firearms accouterments and accessories. There were too many stained dials and dead second hands on the other mechanical watches, but this particular Mido acted as if it wanted to run and needed help. Appears quite exquisite when viewed in person. It's pouring rain outside so crummier photos than usual are offered.

It's the smallest men's watch I've had at only 30mm. I'm guessing it's post-World War II to early 1950s perhaps?

$4 picked it up.

A real runt when compared with its Mido relative also kept here.

Another nice save! Like the raised dot dial markers.

Atlantic Suveraen (Sovereign), which predates the Worldmaster. 16 mm lugs, so wanted a non-tapered band to give a bit more wrist presence. Have now purchased 5 straps from our own @jankoxxx and he delivered yet again with a great one-piece that looks and wears great on this watch. 4 of my other daily wearers now are graced by his shell cordovan straps in various colors, which my poor iPhone photos can't do justice.

This just arrived. It comes from Yellowdog straps. Alex (the one man show) will customize his wares for you. Send him an email and he's quick to respond. This one is the NATO with the flappy part deleted. It looks pretty good on a number of my beaters. It's made of what appears to be wet suit neoprene. It may be worn a little bit looser than cloth or leather straps because it's clingy and holds the watch to your skin better. I like it.

Looks pretty awesome too! How are the edges prevented from fraying?

Looks like it's formed and can't fray.

I think that multifort is a little older than early 50's.

Do you have a picture of the case back?

Excellent pick - put her on a BUND.
