Just picked up my first spur of the moment purchase, a Titus Calypsomatic 7985. IMO, under appreciated and under valued (though this seems to be changing as of late). ~38 mm, gilt/glossy dial, nice yellow patina, no crown guards, 8 mm big crown, roulette (red/blue) date wheel, well constructed bracelet. Next to my gilt Sub it looks like a 'brother from another mother,' as they say.

Seiko 8223-5010 Type ii serial says it is from 1989, but all other sources I have seen say the production of type iis ended in 84'. Either way liking the vibes will be my third Seiko. Will put a perlon strap on it most likely. A another auction same watch(8223-5010)but 700$?

Bought that JR04 off eBay (and not for $25k mind you!) ::psy::

Some watches arrive and you kind of need a few hours / days to really connect with them.... this is not one of those. This is an immediate "wow, this is cool" - frankly, I'm disappointed I didn't go hunting for one a couple years ago!

On top of that the Yankees just retook first place in their division, and the Chinese food I ordered got here in record time.

I picked up some new straps and this inexpensive
"watchmakers" and I use the term loosely because the quality is not what you'd want for a professional but for me to swap bands and get backs off and batteries it's fine.

They are cheap French divers from the 70s usually
Sure was cheap. A bargain if you ask me for a watch that looks like that and is on a 40mm case 馃グ

I brought this back from the spa yesterday but spent too much time concentrating on the dodgy UG. This, admittedly depending on your tastes, is just friggin gorgeous!

Just so you can imagine my face, the second box that I opened contains the full (25 volume) collection of the Works of Sir Walter Scott. Abebooks has an incomplete set up for sale at the moment, asking 拢110. The spines on mine need consolidating as there's some red rot but I have a bookbinder I use for rare books and I think these might be worth saving. There's also a first edition of Huxley's Art of Seeing (1942) and so far I'm up to 7 Kiplings, 3 Thomas Hardys and 7 that I've put aside as "interesting" ... just 11 more boxes to go.

OT for a moment, but Cellugel is what you want for the red rot, stabilises it and doesn't darken the leather. It's what book conservators use.

Thanks - I actually use a professional book binder for the more expensive/rare volumes. I don't deal in books, the same way I don't deal in watches - instead I have an extensive collection and find myself parting with some to finance others. I have some books in at the book binder's now and when I pick them up, I'll see if he can't spare a bottle of Cellugel or similar.
