Not bought today, but arrived today. Didn't want to Jinx it. I've wanted one of these since they came out. I love the design so much I bought this Longines specifically because it had some similarities:
But when you are starting out collecting and one expensive watch ties up funds you could use for five or six lesser, but still distinct and attractive ones, it's hard to decide to make that commitment. @
Spacefruit listed a NOS example in the sales forum, and I shared my appreciation for the watch - we had a nice chat and although I was sure it would be gone, I started the process to free up some funds. Bearing in mind I had never sold a watch at this point, some of you will know how painful it was selling seven all at once (including the Longines above). They were mostly my collecting missteps, but they each have a story and I didn't really want to let any of them go, especially as my full declaration of all the faults I'd uncovered since purchase hurt me financially on a couple of them.
Unknown to me, like a true gentleman @
Spacefruit was actually holding the watch for me - asking other potential buyers to hold off while I sorted myself out, so when I reached out, fund replenished, the watch was still waiting for me. After a painless transaction, I had one small hurdle to surmount - I missed a delivery yesterday morning, and although I chanced my luck at the delivery office at closing time, the van with my watch was still on it's rounds.
I was at the delivery office at opening time this morning, and collected the watch and brought it home. It had been immaculately described - it was immediately apparent the watch had never been worn, so after a careful sizing, I've now ruined all that. I'm going to wear it carefully, but I am going to wear it. A lot.
Its hard to capture with a smartphone, but the lugs are like mirrors, and the facets on the dial ring fling light everywhere. The second hand is blued, which looks great and adds to the overall 50s art deco-ness. It wears a lot bigger than I was expecting, but I love the way it and the bracelet looks on the wrist.
Right, off to stuff photos of my new pride and joy in every thread I can possibly justify doing so.
