Even though I have sworn not to do impulse watch purchases, I just couldn't follow my normal rule of 4-5 months of thinking things over this time.

First: Damn it, I can't wait

Secondat: WAUW, love at first sight.

Third: F#%k you Seiko and your goddamn two piece bracelet pins. I only discovered the sleeves after watching a video on youtube. They had all dropped to the floor without me knowing they were even there.

Fourth: 30 min later. All is forgiven Seiko because this is one heck of a watch.

I believe I bought this yesterday, but still relevant. Finally purchased a cross hair with a second register. Not sure if I paid too much - but excited for it to arrive.

I got a Stowa Flieger Klassik 40 Baumuster B December last year... I couldn't help myself and got a Speedy 3573.50 Wednesday!!!

I'm scared to go home, I think my wife will kill me when she finds out! But, totally worth it!

So this happened today.

However, there's a delayed-gratification element to this: I will neither start wearing what's inside this box, nor will I share photos of it (a tease, I am, yes, hmmm) until on or after May 29 2017.

Wait, what's so special about May 29 2017??

Is it to celebrate Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay becoming the first people to reach the summit of Mount Everest on that date in 1953? No, but that's cool!!

Maybe it's to remember the coronation of Philip VI, King of France, on that date in 1328. Sadly, no.

May 29th is just my dumb 48th birthday, that's all, and today I went and bought my freaking grail watch!!! This is honestly something I was certain I'd wait until my 50th to do, so I blame every single one of you for this. (And thank you for being terribly corrupting influences!)

Anyone reading this who happens to be heading into San Francisco must, must, must visit Shreve & Co. Their inventory is jaw-dropping. I was literally gobsmacked.

Now to play the waiting game...

Found this cute Orvin 60s diver at a flea market. Whats not to like: arrow and lollipop hands, faded rotating bezel, very sharp case and a nice patina. Hope its not a bad find at 70 bucks.

Backside of the lugs lost some of their plating but who care 😀

For some of us, matching the right strap is always a big part of the fun.

Well, be careful not to move from 'which strap should I put on this watch', to 'which watch should I put on this strap'...

Picked up this from an out of town bricks and mortar over the weekend. Always wanted one and have missed more than a few over the years.
Actually I want more than one, as these pre-1940 Scarabs fascinate me. I am of course especially hunting ones with original dials. I've seen some lovely ones that alas were not for sale.🙁
Larger ones like this CK2014 SC medicus are hard to find.
This one has a refinished dial (script discrepancies due to crystal distortion) but the watch is in very nice shape and the dial fairly close to original designs and has no blemishes. So dial be dammed I bought it.
For me it was kind of a breaking the ice, at least now I have one. Maybe they will start flooding in now 😉
