The watch is a Seiko 5717 8990 21 jewel 18,000 bph single button chronograph from 1964 produced for the summer Olympic games in Tokyo as Seiko were the official timekeepers.Etched on the back is the Olympic torch .I have had the watch for a while but it came without the original bracelet and because of the deep lugs it never looked right on leather. The original bracelets (2 versions a coffin link and a BOR) are hard work to find and were typical flimsy Seiko offering of the era so few survive but I have managed to get my hands on this which has transformed the watch

I bought some signatures on a couple of my watchboxes today (Jim Lovell, Tom Stafford, Vance Brand, Glynn Lunney).

In the mail box yesterday morning.
It will surely benefit from a visit at the watchmaker...

... and a strap that better fit the space between lugs

Together with the purchase of yesterday at the watch fair in Paris

I love GMT complications as I travel a ton but this is my first 3 hand 24h watch.

Yout need a box for that?

I have this outer box, however not a full set. I get the funny feeling you have something to offer me... 😜

You know, I nearly made a "what's in the box" post for this... But I was too impatient presenting it here, so there you are 😁

For those on here who know me just a little, it'll probably come as a bit of a surprise to hear that the Limited Edition Liquidmetal Planet Ocean has been somewhat of a grail for me. My interest in watches only began after these had been sold out and since then I have only witnessed prices climbing 🙁

So it has always figured on my "target of opportunity list" for watches I was ready to shell out for when someone unwittingly put one up for sale well below market price. That happened just a few days ago... I couldn't believe my luck, as it was an open auction and all info was there for people to see, but just one taker - me. Naturally, it comes as a full set and is in nearly unworn condition with only a few, minor nicks, so I am very happy...

I still have some reservations about the size, as I am blessed with wrists fit for vintage watches and this is much larger than any of my old watches and also feels a fair bit bigger than both my previous diver, the SMP 300 and my current Speedy FOIS.

But for now - I'm just very, very happy! 👍

One of the happiest watch stories I've read in a while. The watch is spectacular. Congratulations, and enjoy!

No clue what's going on with this one. But it looked cool and seems to have some potential. Anyone ever hear of it?

The gaskets on the crowns have turned to a black tar like substance so it probably needs some work.

Follow up:
Made it to a watchmaker today and opened her up. It has an EB 8800 One Jewel movement. Not as much funk inside as I expected.

Not sure why I won the auction. It went for well below what I expected it to go for. I guess the scratched crystal, cheap band and wrist cheese scared off most bidders.
A bit of polywatch and a jeweler's cloth and I have a great watch.

I saw @watchdaddy1 wearing one of these in WRUW thread a few weeks ago and inquired about it. Turned out to be a group design on another watch forum. There were a few left for sale at a VERY attractive price so I ordered one.

About 37.5mm case size - I requested the acrylic crystal. I was surprised the lug width is 11/16 - 17.5mm; very retro...

I also opted for the full metal caseback instead of the offered exhibition sapphire back. The movement is a hand wind chrono.

The signed crown is a nice touch:

Pretty cool piece for the price of a nice dinner for two at a good restaurant...

This may end my marriage...

But grail achieved!

She hasn't given up yet?

You're not trying hard enough...
