Not two whole weeks ago I started a thread
about a certain Zenith A385 being overpriced and of average condition. Now I'm here to feast on some crow. Yes, I bought it.
@Darlinboy 's comments about the quality of the dial made me reconsider this watch. It does have nicer hands and dial than most A385s on the market, and the case is certainly less damaged by polish than many others. When comparing about a dozen currently on offer it became evident when factoring in case, dial, hands, price and dealer reputation that this one was clearly the best available as a total package. Plus the bracelet is probably worth enough on its own that I could maybe sell it and the price of the watch would be pushed back into the $4000's, which wouldn't have seen so pricey to me relative to the others on th market w/o bracelet. See how easy justification is?
The lesson here is I'm totally weak and can talk myself into anything.
I remind myself of one of those poems by Martin F. Tupper, who was kind of a 19th century British version of Confucius or Jack Handey.
...For the being that is master of himself, bendeth events to his will, But a slave to selfish passions is the wavering creature of circumstance.
I am a wavering creature of circumstance if there ever was one. Anyway, I regret nothing! I love this watch and while the case isn't museum quality this will make for an awesome wearable example. And I like the bracelet way more than I ever expected to. Some crummy pics:
