I have a bit of a dilemma here Jim, I want to tell you the truth, but as much as I like you, marriage is definitely out of the question. I will therefor have to lie and tell you that it isn't mine................now where's my crash helmet?

Bought a Speedmaster Apollo 8 Mission dial from ebay, it came in this very nice box which looks specifically designed to hold the dial as the inner box has flexible plastic liners to hold the dial in place.

After many false starts, close calls, near misses, and loads of research and patience I was able to cross this off my Grail List. 165.024 circa 1968. Figure I'd celebrate with the Gentlemen and cheers to the forum for all the great knowledge share that helped me get there. image.jpg image.jpg

Thanks much. Was a thrill to rush home today to unwrap it, all I could think about while at work. Joy of Christmas morning in July as an old dude.

I thought that too, but then checked the listing and it turns out they are faux leather.

    I bought a Lum-tec 300m.
Always wanted one of these for around the house, and when I'm outdoors.
Maybe also because it's made (or assembled) in Ohio.
Came with a wood box and a ::censored:: load of straps. Can't wait to try them all out.
May not be the finest horological piece out there, but not everything we buy has to be.

Vintage Tissot diver landed in auction tonight.
70s C-style case at 36.5mm may not be to modern dive-watch fans liking, and I couldn't care less. :p
Obviously some TLC (crystal polish for sure) needed but I guess it will come out very good at the end, and then there's the price I paid:)

Your comment got me thinking... If you haven't seen it, is it real?

I hadn't done any in depth due diligence on this one. Total impulse buy, not a lot of money, didn't check the movement or look at it closely even when it arrived. Took a quick pic, posted it here, and sent it off to my watchmaker.

After further research, though black dials do appear to exist, I became more convinced this particular one was not legit and likely an Asian-produced fake case that has been seen before, with a somewhat convincing but incorrect dial. The final nail in the coffin..... my watch guy opened it up today and confirmed... movement appears to be from a different brand, bridge buffed, and Tudor bridge signature added. Told me that he has seen others similar to it surface in recent years & shame on me for buying it.

Seller has agreed to a return (and claims to have been duped himself), so I'm not out anything. Embarassing, but I share it here as another example of why it is so important to be to be an informed buyer, and to buy the seller.

I made a couple of other impulse buys last week, hopefully they will turn out better.

Hmmm...That's a shame, but I'm glad it will work out okay for you...I was kind of wondering, but I have certainly not seen everything!

Today I made an impulse purchase of something I've had my eye on for awhile. Our local (N. Michigan Ave) Nomos dealer had a single Metro Datum Gangreserve in stock. This is the one with totally in-house movement with its swing system escapement.

A not-quite-the-best wrist shot and an older stock photo and some beautiful ones by Paul Boutros from TZ at Basel last year.

Please put at least the first and last letter of the curse you're censoring so we know what it is. That could be either f::censored::k or s::censored::t, or maybe even something new we're not aware of.

    Thank you! :p

ps - I've looked at a few Lüm-Tec watches myself over the years. Nice!

Adam, I have to call you on that statement. If you've had your eye on it for a while, it can't really be an impulse purchase. ;) What it can be is a NFW.

Paul is one of the few mods I miss from TZ. He made the vintage forum there a pleasure to post on. If you still chat with him, tell him I said hi.

Yes, I noted that paradox as I wrote it. It was still just a a leettle bit of an impulse buy.

I've never actually chatted with Paul, I have just admired his photos for years.

edit: I think you were thinking of Paul Delury? Different Paul!

Some better (new) pictures of the Metro Datum Gangreserve. It is No. 1370.
