I've been listening to it a lot, not the radio (AM reception in my condo building is somewhat challenged these days), but (mostly) jazz and dance band 78s from the '20s-'30s.
A little Benny Goodman Orchestra...maybe Sing, Sing, Sing or King Porter Stomp or even Roll'em! Love it!
This just in... Fresh out of the ultrasonic and a new crystal. Untouched AS 1475 mechanical wrist alarm. She's still noisy!
Just a little something for reference...want to follow in the footsteps of Lou (and recently Dennis) one day...
yeah its quartz, but I need something for use in the woods and the canoe and swimming that I won't care about. It'll likely die a horrible death. Does anybody know anything about these things? The date code on the back says it from 1990. Its got a depth gauge (!?!), screw down crown and its supposed to be good to 666 feet. New old stock for only $100, we pressure and vacuum tested it, so I know the seals are good! And its still got Bulova's paper inventory tag on the back!
Cool! Not so into the quartz, but this is a rare sort of hybrid. It sports one of those old school depth gauges embedded in the crystal. See if you can get some angle shots around 3 o'clock. There's probably a hole in the crystal. Water (intentionally) enters and proceeds clockwise around the dial. The deeper your go, the more compressed the air in the acrylic crystal gauge gets, so the more water comes in. The air/water interface marks your depth on the inner ring. I believe that the Nivada Gretchen Depthomatic was the first watch to use this 'technology' in their dive watches. One question: Where can I get my own NOS one for $100?
down on the side of the case at 4 o'clock, I assume that's the hole you are referring to..... I thought that was a charging point for the electrics I did see bubbles from the depth system as we altered pressure while testing the watch. got really lucky on this one.... retired Bulova service guy cleaning out his stuff.
I'm not sure what that port is at 4... I'm talking about the hole in the crystal at 3 O'clock; I think that's where the water comes in for the depth gauge:
???.... I set the day & date using the first position when I pull out the crown, second position sets the time. I dug out my loop and eyeballed the thing on the side, it dose appear that the center is a tiny button, like you'd push with a pen tip. It'll be tried later. Whilst I had the loop in hand I eyeballed the crystal, you're right, there's a tiny little hole over the end of the gauge tube..... even old guys like me can be educated! Is the picture above of this type of Bulova? Not nearly as pretty inside as my mechanical stuff, but what the hell, they are reliable and accurate from what I hear, guess I'll know better as this little bugger ages.
