That was an entertaining digression, also I think Eric wind is georgetownhoya (I think you probably already know that) and the cool thing about this forum is not just the knowledge but also the differing perspective and preference as well as the enthusiasm.

The watch by the way has a 861xxx serial number so it is probably made in 1941. The problem I have is i have yet to sell a watch that I bought (not sure if that is good or bad).

But what interests me more now though, since you brought it up, is how the watch your wizard is working on will end up looking. Please do keep us posted!

Coincidentally also an Eric myself but Eric V. not W.

Nb. Never actually met an Armenian in my life but I am sure your friend must have been one hell of an Armenian from your description.

Oh, cool - I feel *almost* famous! I very rarely recommend watches but I know Gallet and I posted this watch in a thread here http://omegaforums.net/threads/wruw-today.567/page-1079#post-240600

Then, when I got to bottom of Eric Wind's "what's selling where"

I feel flattered , for serious. (Think I could get a "job" @ hodinkee?). Dare to dream.

Okay, enough patting myself on the back and onto your *score*. Obviously you're not dealing with a perfect watch because of the crazing on pusher side of the dial but that's almost normal for that complication for that timeframe. Can you tell us the serial number when you have it or, if you already do?

So , the not perfect dial discounts the watch an expected amount but you received a massive "Armenia" discount ( no offense to my hairy cousins - my best friend in HS, Aram, could literally crush a grown mans skull in his bare hands. We were Co-Captains of the best HS football team in Downstate NY that year. His brains and brawn earned him a full 4 year ride with Notre Dame. I went to ASU on a scholarship (no redshirt) and walked off after my first year and came crying back home to NYC. Men from Texas and Oklahoma are the main places the Sun Devils recruited from and these guys are football freaks of nature.

But, I did get to play 4 downs in the Rose Bowl before I finished and that's a pretty exclusive club! #humblebrag

What a digression...lol.

Back to you: My watchmaker is a stud. What's that got to do with you, you say?

Well, he recently picked off your same watch (I guarantee some of the eagle eyes here saw this one !!! Lmao ) from a Midwestern guy who seems to have a good pipeline. He bought it 8 minutes or something after it went up. I think the guy is a coin dealer. Or, stamps? Not sure, no matter.

I won't say what he paid but he's been working on the watch for about 3 months now and he's already received a serious offer for between 6,000 and ...20,000. sorry, I can't really disclose (I loathe that weasel word...sorry).

I can't write the number because I won't betray his trust. He doesn't read this board and I should be respectful. I'll attach a picture of the watch from the sellers pic just to see what you're up against. I have a feeling you're gonna be OK on this one. 😀

The watch you have needs a little love but if I were you it would be the last thing I would sell. I have about .0001% the knowledge for UG complications as Byron or LouS ("the legend!") but my watchmaker can keep up with these guys and he thinks your complication has the makings of a must have collectible. You know, one of those things where bidders go full war at Sotheby's. I'll stop ranting now...

I'll show you a pic when he's done with it.
Like I wrote earlier: he's a fcuking wizard.

Just arrived today. Will need a little attention : new glass, proper winding crown, another strap, but I already love it.
A nice CK958 from around 1934 :

Here in a German period catalog (non dated but probably also 1934) :

I wish mine had the same Art-deco dial..

You, sir, have one of the most focused and well defined collections I've ever seen. I'm guessing you're a very rigorous and disciplined person. Your depth of knowledge for what is known as Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes "Art Deco" or, just plain old "Deco" is unlike any other collector I've seen.

If my fragile memory serves me correct, this was a purely French art movement passionately embraced by an excited American public. French architects were treated as royalty or modern day rock stars in America. New York City, with it's exploding growth in both the financial and entertainment sectors, became the epicenter of the world for these French architects and designers.

I'm pretty certain the Chrysler Building is generally regarded as the finest and grandest expression of the arts décoratifs movement. Second would be Rockefeller Center which today looks as modernes and futurist as it did when the complex was completed some 80 years ago. Most native New Yorkers will identify this building as the prettiest on the island...like 8 out of 10.

My maison (where I'm typing at this very moment) is at approx 03:15 in this photo! Feel free to come visit, please. No? My kids are driving me insane...help

Thanks for the appreciation of my collection. Your comment on the Chrysler Building is very true : we spent two weeks in New York last summer and I think I have something like 35-40 pictures of this building. It's definitely the one I photographed the most! It's simply amazing.

Hi Yann,
Excellent condition on your new old watch.
Does the outside of those lugs taper in?

My 20f says hello (and is very jealous of the condition of yours!).

Nice - 291 inside?

A good guess - yet even though you had a 50 / 50 shot you missed. I've been so sure about a subdial auto that I ended up losing a bet for the watch in question because I was mistaken on the caliber. Thought for SURE it was a 352 but it was a 19A. Threre were only 3 Loingines autos with subdial seconds - the 22A, the 19A, and the 352. The fonts ruled out the 22A, and it was a front loading case which was introduced in 1958-ish (maybe early 1959 at the latest). Since production on the 19A ended around 1959 the odds favored the 352 which came out in the very early 1960's. The moral os the storey is that the key to those date at 12 Longines automatics is the font of Automatic but there are exceptions to the rules.

This hobby makes it's own stories

I already have the exact NOS crown for this watch which I received as part of a trade.

The Watch Gods provide!

Does anyone know how much this watch is worth in decent collector condition?

A date at 12 in nice condition is a $400 watch minimum.

Should I polish it or leave the case alone?

Looks nice as is. When it comes to polishing, less is more.

Looks like there are 2 new members in the date-at 12 club! Welcome guys. 👍

I like your dial better. 👍

It reflects the period where one designer may have just said "Give me a rule and a pencil, nothing else, and I will design a watch!"

Yup, I got distracted by the dial, indices and hands, that are very reminscent of my 29Xs. Thanks for the pro-tip! 😉

Time to start a new thread? 😁

A present for my good lady. She has commented in the past how much she liked the look of this model so deal done. Coming along with original bracelet so all in all should earn me a few brownie points 😀

So, let us start the speculation. Pressie for Mrs. Alpha and a couple of watches in the "For Sale" section.

Hmmmmm. Alpha is going for a new, not so cheap purchase.........🍿

Hi Jim,
Your 20F is a nice CK 964, in a much better condition than the one I have.

Regarding this CK 958's lugs, difficult for me to describe them, especially in English. As one said, a picture is worth more than a thousand words, here are two thousand words to describe them :
